Information sharing about ESF application

Thanks MomtoSofie&twins.
Yes, we had an email with letter attached, to which I have to reply whether I want to keep her on their waiting list.
I'm hoping their list is currently based on applicants prior to the "mass exodus" I keep hearing about.

In the meantime I guess it is back to the drawing board of speaking to the schools (like those you just mentioned) to see if there's a better chance of getting her in now.

The last time I spoke to FIS (October time) they said I might get her in 2010 or 2011 - Ha!

Which school are you looking at? QBS told me they're always able to place everybody (again assuming they do well). Really I would keep an eye on it, and continue calling early next year. I know so many people who are applying to 3 or 4 schools (and they'll only go to 1) and with so many people leaving I am sure there will be space closer to the end of this school year.

Mushi - Yes, I applied before the deadline. The reason given is "due to the large number of applicants..."

Mom2Sofie&Twins - I was applying for Bradbury. The Admissions scretary has said that all ESF schools are "full" for the time being. Obviously we are staying on the waiting list in the hope that more people will be leaving HK/ESF was not their first choice, etc, etc.

Ah, well, the waiting game continues.....................!

I wonder why ESF is so oversubscribed this year??? I wonder if it's because of it being a high birth rate year, or maybe the financial crisis is stearing people away from the more expensive international schools in favour of ESF?

Financials was definitely a reason for us. Not that we cannot afford the other schools, but we simply don't want to pay $100-$150k a year for a 5 yo. We rather spend any additional money on secondary education and/or a university degree.

We moved into the QBS district in Sep. Before we used to live in Bradbury district. We were told that it is better to move to QBS district since QBS is the easiest school to go in for Asians (non english speaking family, we are not english speaking families). I heard Bradbury is the most difficult one, and no chance for HK families (we are not HK families). On the contrary, all my HK friends get the interview invitation for QBS. Maybe this is the reason, I wonder??? Also, it is true that more parants are aiming at EFS instead of other expensive international schools, so a lot of students applied for ESF this year.

HKIslander - Are your HK friends all cat 2? (can speak Cantonese) If so I'm just wondering why QBS doesn't open up it's catchment to interview Cat 1's from other schools.

Maybe QBS is full and Bradbury is even fuller ... for now at least until after the first interviews. September '09 is still months away, many people may be moving out of HK before that.

We have several people in our building here going to QBS and apparently it was one of the best scoring ESF primaries recently (not sure whatever they were testing but one of the moms told me).

Hi, yes all of my HK friends are 100% Hk families, and they speak Cantonese at home. I also think QBS should open its doors to English speaking families rather than Cantonese speaking families even they stay in the different district. It is quite strange.
