Information sharing about ESF application

So far I have not received any updated information. My child also attends woodland, but I am not sure if ESF staff is coming to the school or not. My friends who passed ESF told me that they do not know weather they came to school or not. Some school principal will tell you that they are coming, some school principal do not tell. Also, my friend' son was visited by ESF staff, but he failed. So, I think they just chat with kids since some kids are shy and do not do well in the interview. Even if kids are not visited, if they do well in the interview, it sholuld be ok.

I am not too worried, my child is a little shy but does well in school and is pretty good in her class room. She has US citizenship as well, we lived in the States most of her life, so no English problems for her. QBS told me they can usually accept all kids (assuming they meet the requirements) and with the number of expats going down due to the financial crisis I am not expecting too many problems in September.

hkislander, when is the interview date in jan? did they give u any optiosn for changing the date?

Hi mushi. They did not give us an option for changing the date, but I think you can. I heard if kids get sick on the interview date, they can extend the date, for example.

My daughter hasn't even been granted an interview.
This is more than a little distressing as I haven't applied anywhere else at this time. We can't afford debentures for International schools and being UK English I'm not putting her in a local school.

Any suggestions for me when I've stopped reeling from the shock?

Did you get a letter, or have you got a letter saying she won't get an interview. I wouldn't worry too much in case you haven't gotten a letter just yet. They have different groups and they go through each group one by one. I also heard one of my daughter's class mates (who has an older sibling at QBS) will have the interview same day / same time as my daughter, so they're in the same group. Being from the UK I don't think you should have trouble getting in, especially not with all these expats leaving. I heard that 40 kids will leave from the French school and 100 less for next year at HKIS all due to leaving / financial crisis.

Thanks MomtoSofie&twins.
Yes, we had an email with letter attached, to which I have to reply whether I want to keep her on their waiting list.
I'm hoping their list is currently based on applicants prior to the "mass exodus" I keep hearing about.

In the meantime I guess it is back to the drawing board of speaking to the schools (like those you just mentioned) to see if there's a better chance of getting her in now.

The last time I spoke to FIS (October time) they said I might get her in 2010 or 2011 - Ha!

dear notmyaisle, had u applide before their first deadline of oct 30? or after that? what reason did they give for not calling u for an interview.....this is really strange and is the first time i am hearing it...u may wish to call the school and talk to admissions to find out more......

anyone else recd a letter? i am getting worried as i am leaving for my holiday after 5 days!!!
