GSIS and Ma On Shan

Parent the big issue here is trust.

Even if he board explained themselves no one would believe them. Throug whole thing they said nothing except that they knew best and MOS was only thing. Never listen to what people had to say or offer. Parents who board said were crazy rubble raisers and could not help actually came with solution.

If chairman has respect he should go volunter and not be asked. what is he waitiing for?

To be fair, I think the present board should explain themselves and tell the parents how things would change in their attitude and their management skills if they wish.
Then the school community can have some time to think whether they prefer the present board or have a totally new one.

I don't agree to this as the whole thing is lasting for such a long time already. Every parent inolved can make up the mind based on the past 12 month. It's easy and simple, just go through the whole conversation that had been seny by e-mail ( or check website) and study the colourful leaflets again and then recall the memory what happened during AGM and EGM-done!

confused

If I am not mistaken, there is no contradiction in the board's claim to have exhausted all options prior to signing on with MOS and now having found a better solution following through with the help of parents' private connections. As I understand the new situation, the Wanchai Campus being controlled by a private association and not within the portfolio of the Education Bureau, and being occupied by the Singaporean Intl. School, was not, until very recently on anyone's radar. Once, the opportunity arose, the board seems to have taken immediate action.
Therefore, I wonder what the remaining, if any, blame is.

please simply go back to this thread early february, then you can already read that wanchai site might be a suitable site, but MOS was anounced on 02.04.2009.
do you really believe in the fast action of the board?

That's why I asked the question and, thanks for you response

During the last 12 month the discussion was always based on the move starting 2010 and it was always rejected to look into another site, which might be available at later stage. The board emphazised the urgency and the fast move.
Suddenly, board confirmed move in 2014 only. Furthermore, I don't believe that the board was not aware of the site in Wanchai.

bellabimba right the board has not communicated or been honest, If board was part of a respected company they would have already resigned. Not sure why they still there in that parents got solution not board. I wonder if they were so bad at this are the plans good for redevelopment that they approved? Is this the right way forward too many linger questions if you ask me.

still confused

Reading through the thread as per the previous suggestion, yes, there is a mention of the wanchai site prior t the MOS announcement, outlining also why it was not a possibbility. No one however seems to have picked up on this until an inconclusive discussion on April 17th, where it was suggested, and even later confirmed, that the info was relayed to the "relevant parties".
Apparently, this has never happened from this group, or has it ?
Just wondering if this discussion is aiming for solutions or getting at he bad guys:confused: and I still don't know who they are .

Yes, bellabimba is right. Without taking away any of the credit that nvmom deserves, the Victoria Shanghai Academy in Wanchai was in fact first mentioned by courtbas (to whom we also owe a big thank you) in this thread back in 19-2-09 which was well before the EGM held on 13-3-09. Obviously, the board did not do any investigation on this site as it kept on insisting that there was no other option available apart from MOS and it went even further and passed a resolution approving MOS at the end of March. After reading the opposing parents' recent e-mail, I have the feeling that there were 2 things that really prompted the board to start looking for an alternative site. First, they reached an impasse. The Education Bureau is unwilling to go ahead with the MOS site unless the legal argument as to whether the board has the authority to sign the lease is resolved. Secondly, the opposing parents lodge a requisition to sack and replace all of the current board members. I would guess those are the reasons that really made the board seriously started looking for an alternative. Anyway, in fairness, I don't think anybody who follows this dispute can say that he is absolutely satisfied with the board's overall performance in this matter. Or at least, shall we say it is reasonable to expect them to do better than what they did?

Now we have found a site that's acceptable to all, what next? Shall we let the current board get on with the work? The question is can they do it properly? Or is there anybody out there who can do better?

I can?t speak for others, but my problem is that I know none of the current board members, their background or how well they discharge their duties on the board. To me, they are just a list of names. However, if you ask me to replace all of them with a new group of people, I would be reluctant to do so because it?s too big a risk. For one, I don?t know if all the new candidates have the experience in running a school. They might be very capable and successful in the commercial field. But it?s a totally different ball game when it comes to a school. Instead of giving out orders like they do in a company, they have got to work closely with all the teachers and staff in the school because the teachers and staff who are doing the day to day running of the school also happen to know a lot more about education than them. How long can these new candidates spare their time and devote it to the non-pay work? How committed are they? These are the questions that make me feel uncomfortable with the idea of replacing the entire board with a new one. To me, the best or perhaps the safer way is to consider if we could replace just some of the current board members with new ones. If we are to do that, we need to know the details and background of all the current board members as well as those of the new candidates. Knowing their background as well as their individual strengths will help us immensely in making a decision. But the question is who is going to provide us with such an information? The current board members are not going to do that because they know that they will stand a better chance if they can stay together as an ?anonymous? group. I wonder if the requisitionists will do it.

By the way, even though some of us feel so strongly against the current board, I am not sure if this feeling is shared by the parents of the 688 students in the Secondary. So far, they are not involved in this dispute and frankly I don?t think many of them care because they will not affected one way or the other. So would you expect them to agree to a proposal to sack the entire current board and replace it with a new group of people? I don?t think they will agree to it. If the requisitionists are only going for a replacement of the entire board, perhaps they should think again carefully. I think they will stand a much better chance by trying to get into the board individually.

I basically agree with you!
