GSIS and Ma On Shan

Just wanted to check to see if anyone had actually heard of the school signing the lease? or are they still negotiating as to the terms?

Seems like there is still no word in respect to the signing of the lease. It would be interesting to find out if the board has carried out their intention of signing the lease with the education department especially with such opposition from the parents.

Why not? I thought that was the decision of the board. Why would you think they would change their mind and not sign the lease? It's a matter of time. Perhaps they are just working out the terms.

There is a big difference between standing up and saying something, bullying parents and acting like the rooster in the hen house and actually going through with something. Therefore I was just curious as I am sure most parents are as to the situation. This is because the board after all its bravado has not said anything or even started on working out how the whole thing is going to work. They did ask parents to join in and help but without detail nothing can be done.

I think they will go ahead. I don't think they do all of this to bully parents. A plan like this takes time. There is no need to rush. It won't happen until next year.

Are the parents finding other alternatives? I saw nvmom posted something helpful.

The tactics that the board use in my mind at least seem like the ones that a play ground bully would use. They constantly keep telling us what they can do and that they don"t care what the parents will do and wont even engage in conversation when you ask them to politely.

What other parents are going to do not sure but I don't think that this is the last of it. Guess we will just have to wait and see.

Have just seen the below re GSIS and the thread posted by Zeus1

GSIS Board
I have been reading with interest the threads re GSIS and what is going on with the school and the move to Ma On Shan. There is a lot of talk about the board of GSIS and what they have done and the decisions that they have made. I would be interested to know who these people are on the board and how they feel that allowing the youngest section of the school and the most weakest take fall for the redevelopment. It just does not seem right to somehow that a group of relative professionals could think that this is right or correct. I also read about board members saying they woudl resign if the parents didnt want Ma on Shan to happen what was that all about? is the board divided? seems like a whole lot of issues for a school that says they are the best.

The answers are as follows copied from school website:

Not sure if anyone is interested or not.

The school has suggested that we use minibuses to transport the children to MOS. I have just got in to work and on the way in was passed by a school minibus that was doing 70 on the Pok Fu Lam road and the small kids on the bus were being bounced around like clothes in a tumble dryer.

This is the Pok Fu Lam road so can you imagine what it would be like on some of the highways!!

genome,

If I may say so, what you described has more to do with the attitude or skill of the driver than the size of the school bus itself. If the kids were "bouncing around like clothes in a tumble dryer", then the school bus was obviously going too fast. If a driver is driving too fast, it won't really matter whether he is driving a school minibus, a big coach or even a train - it's all dangerous! So if we see any school bus driver speeding or going too fast, we must report the case to the school and the bus company immediately. However, if the drivers are not speeding but you feel that it would still be safer to use big coaches, then you could express your views to the working groups which the school said it is going to form in the summer.
By the way, you said you would look into the Wanchai site suggested by nvmom. Is the site big enough to accommodate all the children? Any news on that?

Not sure if anyone is interested or not.

Welcome back Happy Hour missed conversing with you.

Completely take you point re the driver and the bus. It is the driver that affects the transport just wanted to point out that with longer journey times you in affect increase the chance of incidents happening to our children.

You raise a good question re the working groups have you heard anything more on what the school is going to do? what they re thinking of? who can join and how much can parents contribute?

It seems as if we are in a period of limbo waiting for more clarity.

Re Wanchai have passed the information on to the relevant parties.
