Not Discovery Bay - What School?

regarding delia school of canada

It's not ideal but yes, it is in Taikoo - fortunately for us, my hubby works in Taikoo place so can take care of the majority of drop offs if they dont provide the bus from Central pier. At the moment, with the waiting list situation, I'm happy for my son to do the trek until we get him into Bradbury or LIS. Once the app has been processed I can understand the bus situation a little more.....

At this stage, I just kinda need to get him into school, my preference is to live on the island but our situation is such that we just can't get the space we need and my kids have been so much happier whenever we've spent time on DB (bearing in mind that we've just moved and their routine has pretty much gone out the window!!) so if I can get him into a good school in the interim whilst waiting then the trek is a sacrifice I guess we have to make!!

On the other hand - I may well have got this all wrong and it could work out to be quite a stressful journey.....

Whilst I'm sure my son will handle the early mornings, we'll have to wait and see how I cope with it!!!!!

My husband also visited Delia School of Canada a while ago, but we decided not to send our son that far. I respect your decision, and I would do the same thing if my husband worked near Taikoo area. My son might go back to Sunshine House(hoping that there will be a place open for him soon), or he might go to Delia Mankiu Primary School in Tsing Yi, but I haven't made a decision yet.

Guys,

FYI - Due to demand, Delia School of Canada will organise a school bus from the pier from next term. I do not know the cost for this yet but just thought I'd put it out there! Due to visit next week.....

LilyBo - great effort. Kennedy school looks great. Are you still going to move to DB or on HKI?

We have not beed offered any places. Just a K3 spot so I have another 12 months to work something out!

Anyone have any updates - we finally got into Kennedy......still on wait lists for all DB schools!!!!

Wow! Congrat! Actually I'm quite surprised that you got into Kennedy, because when I called ESF they said Bradbury is the only option I have as a DB resident. I did ask about Kennedy, and the lady I talked to on the phone said Kennedy used to take DB kids but not any more. But anyway, I'm very happy for you!

Cheers guys- we do live on DB but as we are new we got in via the corporate surety scheme - they offer you a place in any ESF school regardless of catchment. There is a bus from the pier and it will be a 7.15 ferry but am pleased none the less! Good luck!!

Dear Oze_Kid,

I'm quite happy with Sunshine House, and as far as I know, so are many other parents. I heard that as compared to DMK, Sunshine House is more play focused(DMK does more studying), but I don't have problems with that. In fact I prefer it that way.

I cannot comment on SS DB in particular (schools was a major reason we didn't move there in the first place) but my oldest has done K2 at Sunshine House on HKI (she'll be going to Year 1 at ESF in September) and I am really pleased with what they did. I think it was quite educational, very structured and she learned quite a bit. She's able to read Oxford Reading Tree Level 3-4 which will be a major advantage at ESF, she's having no problems with number up to 20 (including adding and substracting). My understanding is that she has quite a head start on Year 1, so in that respect (assuming Sunshine does something similar across the board, what you would hope for) I think even in K3 you should be fine (unless they make you double the K2 class which is Cloudview).

Mom2Sofie&Twins - DD sounds very bright. Let us know what you think of P1 at ESF please.

For others still looking into P1 places. I got an email from Harbour School that says they are putting on a school bus from DB ferry pier as they have enough kids and still have some P1 places. Good luck.

How is everyone else going?

Now in LIS

My son had the inverview with LIS recently and got a place for P2! I'm very happy that he's got a " BIG SCHOOL" now. How's everybody doing?

I contacted Harbour School a while ago, and found the fee is so high. They charge more than 10K a month, and with the cost for commuting that was way beyond our budget. But the way they teach at Harbour School looked great.
