Not Discovery Bay - What School?

Guys

We are also in exactly the same situation - My son is 6 today (!) and we are seriously considering DB as an option to live as we can't afford anywhere in Happy Valley that offers us the space we need. Sadly, like you guys, what this means is that we have to fully compromise where schooling is concerned. I have him on LIS, DBIS, DC waiting lists and we have entered the ESF corporate surety scheme (although this still isn't guaranteed...!?). Let me know if anyone else ends up taking the ferry commute and to where.

pm me if you want to get together to vent some frustration!!!!

Thank you and pls keep me posted

I'm also considering getting a private tutor for my son, but haven't decided on it yet. Since we are very new to HK, I don't even know whether that is legal... If I cannot find any school for my son, it would be great if there is a kindergarten/preschool which offers K3, but so far I've found none in/near DB.

Anyway, please keep me posted if you find anything worth sharing with me. I'll do the same for you.

Good luck!:)

regarding the harbour school

I was quite surpised to see the school fee at the Harbour school actually...since it's gonna cost some more for commuting on top of that... and if they are not sure about the school bus service...hm....does that mean if there are more kids(like my son) going to school from DB, they'll provide the bus service? I'm still not sure whether it is right to spend so much on 6 year old's education...

FYI

I've just spoken to ESF re my sons application through the Corporate surety scheme and he is number 8 on the wait list through that scheme - she said she really didn't think he would get in Yr2.......!! I've taken a look at Harbour school but I'm not sure the ethics work for us but at the moment if needs must.......

Good luck guys

DD is a little younger than LilyBo and sonkking DS. I am clammering for P1 places so K3 is still an option.

Re Sunshine House. sonkking, how are you finding it for DS at the moment? Is he learning or is it more play based?

I put in an app for the Delia school of Canada today Delia School of Canada - I called and they have spaces for Grade 1 which is my eq. for Yr2 but I didn't ask for the pre-grades. Once again, they may run a bus from Central & may be worth a call......

LilyBo - Is this the school out near TaiKoo? I think too far to travel for us. It would be like an hour and a bit each way...

It's not ideal but yes, it is in Taikoo - fortunately for us, my hubby works in Taikoo place so can take care of the majority of drop offs if they dont provide the bus from Central pier. At the moment, with the waiting list situation, I'm happy for my son to do the trek until we get him into Bradbury or LIS. Once the app has been processed I can understand the bus situation a little more.....

At this stage, I just kinda need to get him into school, my preference is to live on the island but our situation is such that we just can't get the space we need and my kids have been so much happier whenever we've spent time on DB (bearing in mind that we've just moved and their routine has pretty much gone out the window!!) so if I can get him into a good school in the interim whilst waiting then the trek is a sacrifice I guess we have to make!!

On the other hand - I may well have got this all wrong and it could work out to be quite a stressful journey.....

Whilst I'm sure my son will handle the early mornings, we'll have to wait and see how I cope with it!!!!!

Dear Oze_Kid,

I'm quite happy with Sunshine House, and as far as I know, so are many other parents. I heard that as compared to DMK, Sunshine House is more play focused(DMK does more studying), but I don't have problems with that. In fact I prefer it that way.
