Not Discovery Bay - What School?

What happens if I can't get DD into a DB school? What other primary schools are in the area or have bus services from central pier?

Your insight much appreciated.

What about Lantau International School ? LIS Homepage

I know a few mums who have sent their little ones there and seem happy. They pick up in DB to go direct to the school by bus.

How old is your DD? Some children go to DMK or Sunshine until they can get a place at DBIS or DC.

FYI, perhaps due to the financial crisis, there seems to be a larger turnover than usual at DBIS. 3 of the children (out of 22) in my daughter's P1 class left this year because their dads either lost their job (1) or were transferred (2).

Hi Jane01 (It is me! Last year username vegemitekid!) I am probably being a drama queen but don't have a backup if a place at DBIS doesn't come through! Although I have now put in a application for ESF since posting this but they say they have a big waiting list too.

I didn't know Sunshine House had a K3 class too. Will contact them and have been talking to DMK as Bubbles got in this year so I will try and push for Smurf to join her if DBIS falls through!

Cheers
PS: C just had a birthday I think, happy belated :)

Hello my dear - name changes confuse me, I'm obviously easily confused, lol.

A friend sent her little girl to kindy at Sunshine in Tung Chung (I think they have k3) until she was offered a place at DBIS.

From what I hear DC are very full and aren't particularly apologetic about their long waiting lists. Way to work with the community... At least DBIS has really addressed waiting lists in the last few years - eg. extra class in P1, opening of Discovery Centre for more space, etc.

PS. Thanks, C was just 6. Can't believe she is such a big grown up girl.

Sorry, try to change username once a year for anonymity but i rather like this one so might just keep it!

6 years old! wow time really flies!

Yes DC were rather rude and unapologetic about it. They basically told me not to bother putting in a application! And that was last Sept. It is a shame because I do like the ESF philosophy and IB program.

I was going to call Sunshine DB but Tung Chung would work too! Thnx

Hi, we are in the same situation. I have a son who will turn six this August(born in 2003), living in DB. Currently my son is going to Sunshine House in DB(we've been in HK less than 2 months), and the princinpal said my son could return to their kindergarten next term. I contacted DMK and they said no, because my son's too old.

I contacted ESF and they said Bradbury is the only ESF option for DB residents(Kennedy is not open to DB residents any more).

I put him on the waiting list for DC(although they told me not to bother), DBIS(more than 70 ahead of us), LIS(around 20 ahead of us) and Bradbury(around 50 ahead of us) recently. Honestly I was quite shocked to see the facilities in LIS, but they have a school bus service to DB and that's good enough for us now.

Thing is that we never know how long the waiting will take. We are very new to HK, and I can't believe how difficult it is to get into a proper "school" in DB.

Oh, I also contacted Delia English Primary School in Mei Foo, and Delia Mankiu English Primary School in Tsing Yi. They are not international schools but subjects are taught in English. The only thing I didn't like about those schools was that they teach Cantonese as a subject every day. The fee is quite low compared to that of those international schools.

Since we are in the same situation, I do hope things will work great for you.

Sorry to hear your situation sonkking. I don't know what number we are for Bradbury but as it was only done a few weeks back I suspect we are worse than 50! I am looking at two other schools on the island and will let you know how that goes.

Still haven't called Sunshine House which I need to do. I am also considering a private tutor until a place becomes available. Has anyone done this? I wonder what legal requirements are for having to attend school??
