Our 5 year old reported the following (this was CDNIS, but likely fairly standard):
- what he likes, dislikes, and why
- to draw something (anything he liked)
- to read something
- to write his name
It all seemed fairly standard in determining his development level in terms of how he expresses himself, and a quick assessment of reading and writing skills.
I heard one story (hopefully it was in jest) of one school putting a toy on the table, then rejecting the child immediately because they looked at it (were distracted). Could prepare for that I suppose by telling him they are going to play a game with him to see if they can get him to look at a toy, and he wins the game by not looking at it (all sounds a bit farcical to me - I hope it isn't true).
