Information sharing about ESF application

Just saw a friend in the supermarket. Her son also did not get an interview at Bradbury. Both parents are US citizens.

Hi, Just saw this thread.... My son's born in September 2004. My son's scheduled for an interview at KJS in February 2009. Anyone else interviewing at KJS?

I read today's newspaper about many expats leaving HK for financial crisis. However, they say that school is the only business which are not affected so far. It says HKIS and ESF's waiting numbers are the same, and ESF got 10% more applicants than last year for Year 1 seats.

hkislander, yup, I read that in the papers too.

A friend of mine (she's a bbc) received an email from ESF informing her that they have to reject her due to too many applications received this year.

I've been told that there are more babies born in 2004 because it was just after SARS.

It's frightening.

Even with DSS schools, there could be more applicants. I am assuming me this because DSS is cheaper than international schools and everybody's worried about their job.

There was another comment in the papers that because good schools only take on children whose parents can afford lots of extra-curricular activities, the poor who cannot afford won't be accepted and this would deprive their next generation, putting them in a vicious cycle of being poor.

Hi, I don't know how to delete my last post but I've just looked at the govt's census and statistics website. The correct number of births are as follows:-

2002: 48 million
2003: 47 million
2004: 49.8 million
2005: 57.1 million
2006: 65.6 million
2007: 70.9 million

May,

It's 48k not million, etc! According to those figures it's only getting worse. I have 2 - 2006 born as well. So if we're still here, they'll hopefully go to QBS as well (at least they should have a sibling in by that time if all goes well). Then again, I heard about 2 more people being laid off today ...

Just to follow the trend my son is 2006 born too!
I spoke to Central Admissions at ESF and they have confirmed that the applications are 10% up on last year due (it seems) to a high birth rate. They got 200 applications for 120 places!

Seems I best go checking down the sofa cushions for extra cash - LOL!

So sorry, yes, I meant it in thousand, not million.

I was trying to do my accounting work at the same time when I typed it.

Yikes!
