GSIS and Ma On Shan

Quick question anyone heard of one of the members of the board resigning as he said he would do if the school parents voted against the MOS move?

Tried doing that but they were not giving out any information. Guess will have to wait till they deem it appropriate to let the parents know what they are going to do. As soon as I hear anything though will post it here.

genome,

The longer the delay, the better it is for you. Ignoring the EGMs altogether is a decision that will take the least time to make. If they need more time, it may mean that they are trying to put together another compromise proposal or that they have decided to drop MOS completely but they need time to work out a new plan. Just a guess though.

Easter holiday starts tm and people are still not hearing anything from the school. The most upsetting thing about this school is really their lack of concern about parents and their lack of communications skills. Seems like we always go on holiday with a big question mark about the school future plan. :(

That always seems to be the case though. They never seem to communicate or want to invite us in on the discussions regarding our school. Something they seem to forget is that it is our school the students and the parents and the community that make up the school and not some play thing or hobby of the board.

School's letter:-

2 April 2009
Dear GSIS Community
In the Board meeting held on Monday, 30 March 2009, the Board of the GSIS Association Limited
unanimously decided to implement the next phase of the GSIS Campus Development Plan.
As part of this Campus Development Plan, from summer 2010, the Upper Primary (K02 ? K04 and Y03
? Y06) will be temporarily relocated to Ma On Shan for the duration of the Peak campus
refurbishments while the Lower Primary (DVOR ? K01 and Y01 ? Y02) will move to Pok Fu Lam.
After having carefully explored all possible alternatives and with the Education Bureau clearly
expressing that no other decanting school campus will become available for GSIS in the foreseeable
future, the Board has decided to accept the Ma On Shan offer from the Education Bureau in order to
protect the school?s long-term interests. The decision was made by the Board with the power vested
in it to manage the affairs, administration and business of the German Swiss International School
Association Limited as documented in the company?s Memorandum and Articles of Association.
The decision was very difficult for us after such an extensive consultation process. However, we are
convinced that the majority of the parents will support our strategy to protect the long-term quality
and performance standards of GSIS. Our school development plan is also supported by the German
and Swiss Consulates, the Central Agency for German Schools Abroad, and the Education Bureau of
Hong Kong.
We are aware that this decision cannot satisfy the interests of all parents within the school
community. We thoroughly understand the issues raised and we are committed to searching for
solutions together with you and the School Management that will minimize disruption for all students
during the construction period.
In particular, we take the concerns of parents from the Primary Department about extended travel
very seriously, and we will do our best to address them during the detailed planning of class
schedules in Ma On Shan as well as the transportation and bus arrangements. We fully welcome
interested parents to participate in the planning process. A working group consisting of interested
parents and faculty representatives will be established before the summer holidays to develop
appropriate suggestions.
In addition, the Board and the School Management will monitor the short-term fluctuation of the
student numbers in this rapidly changing economic environment and will explore all options that
would reduce disturbance during the construction phase.
DEUTSCH-SCHWEIZERISCHER INTERNATIONALER SCHULVEREIN GMBH
GERMAN SWISS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL ASSOCIATION LIMITED
We hope that all parents will unite and support the long-term interests of GSIS as a whole, even
though from an individual point of view, some may have a different preference. As parents, it is our
responsibility to ensure our children receive the best possible education as it plays an important role
in shaping their future. In the same way, it is our responsibility and goal to provide a first-class
learning environment, not only for today?s student body, but for future generations as well.
We ask for your confidence and trust in the Board?s decision for the development of the campus.
GSIS deserves our united support.
