GSIS and Ma On Shan

Dragon hour thanks for your help.

The mechanism to remove each member is done by a vote on each member just like at all the other meetings the chairman has first asked if we want to vote for all or one by one. We have always said all then voted all. We have option of voting one by one. Hope this clarifies things.

This has become very interesting but I agree with Dragon the discussions go round and round and go nowhere. I am happy that MOS is not going to happen so will leave it at that.

genome,

If this discussion is just going round and round and getting us nowhere, we might as well stop. I believe a lot of us here want to help and contribute in the hope of finding a good and workable solution rather than just to air our grievances.

I have thought about this for a long time. I remember reading in the school website that it was concluded back in 2001 that a new building is needed to solve the lack of space problem. So there has been a delay of 8 years and the board somehow still manages to make a complete mess of the whole thing. Quite a remarkable accomplishment! On the other hand, I hate to say that I have no complete confidence in the requisitionists either. As Dragon pointed out, there was no following up on the Wan Chai site by the requisitionists after it had been mentioned here back in Febrauary. Furthermore, nobody even bother to clarify the exact wording of the requisition. All these do not reflect well on the requisitionists either. We all know that the directors' no pay job demands a lot of time, attention and work. Our main complaint now is that the current directors are not doing enough. But are the requisitionists and the new candidates really that committed themselves? Can they really spare the time, take the initiatives and do the work?

I don't know how the other parents think. But if you ask me to vote the entire board out and replace it with a completely new group of people, I would definitely say "no" because it's far too risky or even reckless to do so. If you ask me to consider the directors and candidates individually, I just don't know them well enough to make a decision. I just can't take the candidates' words for it, can I? What if I accidentally vote the very few goods one out and keep the bad ones in? It's again a "no" for me. So I am left with no option but to stick with the current board. Unfortunately, there are still a lot of decisions to be made and works to be done by the board. Can they do it? Can they choose the right plans and designs, make the appropriate arrangement and implement everything smoothly? To me, it's really demoralising.

EGM procedure

No, you don't "replace" 2 directors. There are currently 13 directors on the board and the maximum is 15. You can appoint 2 more at any time.

Happyhour, that is only an option if the request for the EGM actually is asking specifically for this option, which currently it does not.
As pointed out before the proposed, special resolution is asking for the removal of all and the voting in of the other batch.

Dragon,

Agreed and that's why I suggested that the requisitionists should consider this option rather than the one stated in their requisition. I know it may entail the withdrawal of the present requisition and the filing of a new one. But to me, it's better than going ahead with the present one which is likely to fail. Also, it's better than doing nothing as I am sure the board will continue to act in the way it did with no improvement whatsoever. Anyway, it doesn't really matter anymore because it appears that either the requisitionists are not aware of this thread or they are simply not interested.

Totally agree, now it's time to show, whether this is going to lead anywhere. Is anyone, are the requisionists (I am not yet, but would consider it ) part of this forum, are they at least watching it and possibly heeding any of the advice ?
If not I think it would be time to close it down.

Dragon,

I am afraid you are a bit late. I received an e-mail this afternoon from the proposed candidates saying that they will withdraw the requisition altogether. So it's time to say goodbye to everybody.

My honest suggestion, let's move on and make the best out of everything.

At least, the board was willing to listen and took action.

I am now going to have to deal with this whole newly proposed calendar at ESF which my kids are being proposed to start school early August just so there will be 4 terms rather than 3 terms with additional breaktimes.

Imagine how inconsiderate that is to us all working parents?

So every school has problems. There is no need to get so emotional over it. It's over and let's be happy with the outcome.

My take on the ESF deal is if I am totally unhappy with it, I'll move my kids to another school.

Weclome back from Summer Everyone

I hope everyone had a good summer.

I was just kind of curious now that we have all come back from vacation and all have had time to cool down in respect to the heated debate re the MOS move. Is it time to start focusing on the board of the school and if we should attempt to make worthwhile changes?

I just wanted to put it out there in that at the end of the day the one conclusion that I take away from all that has happened is that I was very disapointed in the way that the Chairman of the board, the board and the principal handled the entire situation. To my mind they were found lacking in so many different ways.

Any thoughts from anyone or should we just let things be and see if they have learned anything from the events of last year?

Have seen quite a few people come in to take a look at the above. Thank you. Maybe to early in the term to think about it. Lets see if we can keep using this page as a form of discussion. Has been viewed over 21k times so seems like it is useful.

Will check in ocassionally and post any news that is relevant.

All the best to everyone for the coming year.

I am sure that you have all received the notification from the school in respect to the re election of the retiring board members. There are two things that sprang to mind when I read it the first was:

1) that they acknowledge that there are insufficient funds at present to complete the whole works process or at least that is the way it reads. Hope that they clarify this.

2) That the Chairman of the Buidling Committee is also up for reelection. Considering so far the distribution of news and information regarding the rebuild was so appalling would it not make sense to get someone in who could do a better job of keeping us informed and running the project as it should be run?

Interested in eveyones thoughts.
