GSIS and Ma On Shan

Another letter from the board in my inbox this morning.

Couple questions

1) The board attached a letter from concerned parents to the notice. I wonder if they would have done the same if the letter had questioned their ability? also turn around was amazing letter got written, sent to school and passed out to the rest of the school within 24 hours? Nice touch to adding KK's letter but not adding the one from the preceding week which was a little more controversial and less supportive.

2) is it honorable for the board to attack individuals who have shown great courage by stepping forward to take a stand and be willing to be elected on to a school board in such times of controversy? The board should at least give these individuals the chance to explain what skills they can bring to the school and what benefits can be derived. Does the mud slinging really have to start now?

3) The EGM is not as the board has stated one vote to remove the whole board in one go. There will be a vote for each individual member whether they stay or go. So not everyone will be voted off is my guess but at least we will be able to vote fro change.

4) Lastly I consider myself realtivley intelligent and world wise and being capable of being able to undersand the complexities of running an international school after all Hong Kong is probably the most international place in the world to live and being alumni to several interntational schools myself. I get it. So was it necessary for the school to point out these complexities? Parents are not lacking in intelligence or understanding.

Lets just get this over and done with so that we can all go on the summer break come back refreshed rejuvinated and ready to face the future and the challenges it will bring.

I think its time to give some new ideas and new management skills to the school in order to take the whole community forward. The present board maybe right when they were elected then, but they proved to have made mistakes in the past 2 yrs. There is no rules in the world that board members are life-long. People should know well that changes are inevitable and should not be afraid of. We just need some new voices in the board, why not give it a try. To clear things a bit, we do not have to vote out the whole present board. The EGM is just an opportunity that allow parents to read and see and choose again.
This is not about losing face, angry or conflict between parents.
This is about the future of the school. The education that we choose for our children, and not hotel rooms and room services.
We need change...just like the US people need Obama.

1. The thing that bothers me in the board's letter this morning is that someone is said to have described the new proposed board as an "interim board". What is important is that the new candidates must not see themselves as mere interim housekeeper waiting for someone else to take over the job after the renovation is finished. It's a wrong mentality and it's not going to work.
2. I am sure a lot of the parents are not going to attend the EGM in person this time. They will probably vote by proxy. How can they decide which one to replace? I think they will probably take heed of the old saying "a known devil is better than an unknown angel" and maintain the status quo because it's a safer bet to them.
3. I have one suggestion which I believe stand a better chance of winning. I understand that there are at present 13 directors. Article 45 says the maximum is 15. That means we can appoint 2 more directors to the board. If the requisitionists can single out the best 2 persons from the list of new candidates and tell us everything about them and how they will help the school etc., I think it would be easier to convince the parents to vote them in. Just 2 of them, they might not be able to outvote others. But at the very least, they can serve as watchdog on the lazy directors (by the look of it, there may be many) who have been doing nothing.

Happy hour great point re the board being able to go to 15 lets investigate.

Re better the devil you know than the angel you dont. Dont agree we should not fear change but embrace it if we know what we are embracing.

I have two children and I find this most confusing.

I was so thrilled that somehow Wanchai appeared like a miracle. So far as I am concerned I see no point in a continued prolonged quarrel.

Others seem not to enjoy the good news but keep up the debate.

Before the good news I was worried and confused. Now I am happy and confused.

Who is K K Lee?

Who is Ellen Friedlader?

Did they object to Ma On Shan at first?

More important who does Buchholtz think he is?and why does he fear change, dialogue parent input? The GSIS is not his private company. He is not the school parents are. Is dialogue and conversation not good? In my eyes he fails as a chairman and should move over and give someone else chance.

Everyone good luck and have good weekend.

Is Buchholtz on the board?
Who is he?
Related to Ingrid Buccholtz?
Does he have children at the school?
Thanks.

Did the board attack individuals?

In any case, I thought mud slinging started some time ago?
