Our principel said they only observe, not intervening and/or talking to kids ... at least that's what I've been told.

I got a letter from my dd's preschool (Sunshine TT) informing me that QBS will visit the school on Monday to observe the children prior to their interview on the 19th.

Hi mummies,

My kid has an interview with Shatin Junior next week. So does my friend's girl. According to my friend, Shatin Junior tests the kids on drawing. However, we understand from the school authorities that only English Language competence skills will be tested. My friend, however, insists that she is correct and that the information she obtained was from reading this forum.

I'm so worried cos my kid can't draw though he speaks very well. My friend's girl can draw very well.

Can anyone kindly confirm if my friend is correct?

They came by at my dd's preschool today. They first observed and then they spoke to the 4 children (in a group) outside the classroom, just informally ... about their favorite foods, etc. and then apparently they were told about next week, together with other kids, play and "make" something as my daughter described it. It's hard to tell when a 4 yo tells you a "boy" came to school and talked to them?! But she sounded very positive and good about it, and she's looking forward to next week. I think it's more about social interaction, English, etc. and it's not a drawing / writing, etc. test but they may do some arts & crafts (as I understood from the "making something" part) ...

HTH.

hi josephine -

i agree with mum2sophie&twins.

from what i remember from the kennedy interview, the kids go into a room, where there are several toy options and drawing options as well. the observers do not mind which your child plays with, it is more social interaction they are looking for. they offer the toys (and the chance to make a drawing for mum and dad) to give the kids something to do while the observers are chatting with the other kids. also, talking about the artwork & what they've just created is a good conversation piece for the kids. i don't think they are tested on it at all. it just helps ease the conversation.

hope this helps and good luck to your child.

Hi Mummies,
Thanks for your help. Really do hope my son can get through. He can get stubborn: doesn't talk to people he doesn't know.

So hope some parents can share their experience about the ESF Year 1 interview after their kids has taken the interview, for most ESF Y1 I think it start this week till early Feb. Thanks in advance.

Monday we're going. I spoke to my child's teacher this morning and she said the QBS person was very happy with all 4 kids, and she said my daughter did well (a little shy at first, no surprise).
