Ok so I took my 6-year old son to the doctors, and there was a brother (7-8 years old) and sister (4 years old) there playing the toys laid out by the clinic.
While I checked in with the reception, my son saw the toy that the boy was playing with, and pressed a couple of keys which made the boy quite mad, and he screamed at my son. I quickly asked my son not to bother the boy and play with the toys that were not in use, which my son promptly did.
The little girl was very sweet and handed toys to my son and told him that he could play with some toys, but the brother then shouted at her in Cantonese something to the effect "why are you giving toys to him, he's a dumb kid, a stupid kid, I really hate him, don't give him anything." At this point, I'm a little taken aback by his language and hatred and waited for the helper who was sitting there and the mom/grandma that was sitting across the room to step in. . . but not a peep was heard from them.
But he doesn't stop there, a few minutes later he tells his sister that she can play with his but don't let the stupid, dumb boy etc. etc. even look at the toy. . . again still no reaction from the adults. My son then sat on the same desk as the little girl and they played tea party, which again set off another barrage of "why are you playing with the stupid boy, etc." from the brother. Still no reaction from the adults. This went on for quite a while until they two kids got called into the doctor's office.
At this point, I'm just fuming . .because while my son should not have touched his toy. . .which really is a public toy, I do not believe the boy should have shouted at him and continue to harass my son! I am not sure if my son understood what the boy was saying, as he just ignored the boy. What really got me mad is that I do think the parent/grandparent and/or helper since both of them were there should have stepped in and stop the boy from verbally bashing my son. It was all I could do to control myself from giving the boy and parent/helper a piece of my mind.
So here's my question to the moms. . . What would you do if you were in my shoes?
