waiting list - is there an end?

hi carms1

How many students per teacher? I am looking for smaller class size for my children because they need learning support especially my son with speech delay and he has been in speech therapy since he was 3.5 yrs old. He will be 6 in January.

Thanks,
Yvonne

Hi Yvonne, they have a ratio of 1 teacher to 7 children. They also have additional literacy programs during the school day where they take children out of the class in groups of 2 or 4 to get them up to speed...our 6 year old has this as well as speech therapy during the school day. I find that this saves me a whole lot of time running around outside of school hours attending additional appointments and our 6 year old is doing really well there.
They have a great team on board at The Harbour School...well worth looking into it :) We are really happy with the support that they give to the children. Also, they group children according to ability not age, hence children gain confidence and don't feel overwhelmed all of the time. It also works the other way if you have a child with exceptional abilities too, they are also assessed and given work accordingly.
Good luck with your decisions, :)

Thank you carms1.

I gotten a reply from them they feel my children have more problems that they can handle?
They are both currently in mainstream with private OT and ST.
But I am still looking into primary next year that would accept them.
I spoke to Watchdog about the school they cater to autistic spectrum mostly.
I will be visiting Norwegian International school coming Monday. They still have K3 opening possibility.

Thank you for your help,
Yvonne

The Harbour School has a sister school called The Childrens Institute (TCI), maybe find out about them too. I know that the children from TCI join in at Harbour for a lot of the lessons, and have access to all of the extra services. Good luck :)

Did you fancy catching up at some stage for a coffee? :)
cheers, Carms :)

hi Carms,

Thank you for your info. Matilda's school list didn't have TCI. I am definitely going to look into it.
Sure thing with catching up. I am going to message you.

Yvonne
