Views on American International School in Kowloon?

American International School in Kowloon Tong is a good international school

My boy is studying in American International School (AIS). It is a good school in terms of student mix, teacher quality, school environment and facilities. There are some misunderstandings found on the net but I think some of the comments are not neutral and they don't even know the school from within, just hearsay.

For instance, some commented that there are a lot of local students studying in AIS. This is true because there is a huge population of local students studying in other international schools like HKIS, CIS and ESF also.

I am glad to have my boy as HKer to have been intermingling with Americans, Europeans, Japanese, Koreans, Indians and mainlanders. Later when he grows up, he has been well accustomed to a variety of cultures.

Students and parents studying in AIS are decent and learned. Apart from a majority of middle-class parents, some are from higher class families.

So HK Parents, what do you think of its early childhood classes? Is there some sort of home communication book for parent-school communication? Thanks!

Its early childhood (kindergarten) is comparable to, if not better than ESF and Anfield, the two kinders I am familiar with.

In terms of teachers parents communication, they have periodic teachers parents conferences in addition to student handbook and school email.

Thanks HK Parents. When you say AIS EC class is comparable to, if not better than, ESF and Anfield, what were the factors you were looking at?

We got offers at both Anfield and AIS, hence the question.

There is no one-size-fits-all. Parents choose a school based on a number of factors that suit their own children, family background and what the child and his/her parents are looking for. To put it simply, I am unable to give you an answer because I were not you.

A lot of parents in this kind of forums can give you an answer. There opinions must be biased. You are the only one who knows your kid better than I do.

If my advice would be of some help to you or anyone, my response is both AIS and Anfield are very good schools. Why do I say so? My boy have attended both schools and love schooling very much.

Even you toss a coin to make a decision would not lead to a wrong pick.

That's fair - although I don't mean that you give me the answer as to which school I should choose. After all I am my own child's parent. My question was when you said the schools are comparable, I want to know what factors you were looking at, eg teacher quality, English program, etc. Strictly for discussion and reference only. Thanks! :)

As mentioned in my earlier message, both Anfield and American International schools are good in terms of teacher quality and school facilities. Anfield follows a UK curriculum while AIS adopts a US peogramme. As a matter of course, it may be easier for students in Anfield in the end to pursue studies in the UK and those from AIS to go for US universities. However, it is only a "trend".

I like Anfield's Kowloon Tong campus which has an outdoor playground. The school building is also beautifully built. To my mind, it is better than those famous local kinders such as St Catherine or HK Preschool.

AIS is a through train school from kinder to high school. Hence, it has a sizeable campus. The school buildings are also characterised by its "Red Bricks".

Although I do not want to be provocative, frankly speaking, Anfield is better than quite a number of local and intl kinders around in HK. At least, your kids at the age of two would not be asked to follow those instructions that a normal child aged 2 could not do or perform during an interview.

AIS is also at least no worse than other most sought afterinternational schools. I won't name it cos I don't want to be provocative.
