Travelling To Perth

We are planning a holiday to Perth, Australia in November and would like to know if there are any nice places to bring my 2 and 3 year old girls. Does anyone have any recommendations for hotels and other places of interest for the entire family? Thank you in advance for your help.

I visited Perth few years ago and stay in my friend's home. So, don't know which hotel is good. But I find Fremantle is a very nice place and worth to go there.

how long are you going for? in perth you can hire short term self contained units so if you want to do some cooking you can. otherwise you will want to stay in hotels that are quite convenient unless you were planning to drive. public transport is not that great.

places to take your kids, (i will be taking my baby and my helper in nov):
1) zoo
2) kings park
3) the revolving restaurant at st martin's arcade
4) beach eg scarborough, hillarys
5) fremantle but go during the weekends as the fremantle markets only open on the weekends
6) east perth (the new bits contain a very nice park and have beautiful housing, you can have a bbq there and take leisurely strolls)
7) bike ride around the swan river. the bikes can be hired and they have child seats and helmets for hire too
8) rottnest island if you have time

places are endless. i am just happy to take my baby so he can crawl on clean grass. when r u going? if i come up with more places, i can mssg you.

if u drive that will be better as the street directory is very easy to use and it is so much more convenient with children.

Rottnest Island is DEFINITELY worth a daytrip. It's sooo beautiful and a great place to ride bikes, swim and snorkel.

Other than that I think the beaches are the best thing Perth has going for it - lovely white sand, so close to the city. Cottesloe is pretty, and has some good cafes/shops to browse through afterwards.

Public transport in Perth is not great. Hiring a car is an excellent idea.

Thank you so much for all your replies. We are looking forward to our first trip to Perth in November. I hope the weather stays cool and comfortable so that we can do lots of outdoorsy activities. We are going for 6 nights, 3 of which will be spent at the Hyatt Recency Perth. My husband is adamant we check out some vineyards at the same time (he works in the F&B line) but I also hope we will manage to fill in at least half of the places that everyone has listed here.

We drove down to south west, margaret river or if you prefer a shorter drive, you can check out swan valley. I brought my 16mths old bb. we went to vineyards for lunch, then to chocolate factory and sat down by the grass. There was a live band and my little one was dancing and running around the grass. It was fantastic

Just love perth, nice and clean, people are very friendly and polite.

yes, go to swan valley, there are heaps of vineyards and also there should be some fruit orchards on the way. you can take your girls to pick some fruits... maybe strawberries around november. since your hubbie is in the f&b business, my friends rave about this german restaurant at swan valley. i will try to find out the name for you. if there are no fruit orchards around swan valley you can go up to yanchep. there should be some on the way to yanchep. at yanchep there is the famous crystal caves and also if you have time, you can go for a bbq or picnic at the yanchep national park. you can also hire a boat to paddle out into the lake.

maybe go to adventure world if you have time. hyatt regency is very nice but very quite area at night. there is basically nothing around there at night. you will have to go to subiaco or mt lawley for more of a night life. it is ok to take your kids there as many of the restaurants do cater for families with little ones.

if you do hire a car make sure you find out about the carseat arangements for your little ones as the laws are very strict about toddlers being in carsets.

Thank you all for your replies. Actually I was not really keen on going to Perth for our upcoming family holiday, probably because as a single person (quite a few years ago of course) I've always been told that Perth is a slow and boring city...more for the aged. However it sounds really "family-friendly" and I am now looking forward to going!

BTW, does anyone have a rough idea how much car rental is (a comfortable family saloon for 4 persons) and also the car seat rentals as I have 2 kids.

check out the following for car rentals. www.bayswater.com.au i think they should be cheaper than international fleets like hertz. car seats are cheap to rent in perth. the car rental company should have them otherwise go to www. kidsafe.au, they will even install it for you.
