Sunshine House Prep School Tung Chung

Hi H&A
I went for Bauhinia because like Millerwhisk said its evenually coming to DB and there wasnt a debenture to pay. SS House Kindy in DB is for ages 2-6 yrs and you dont have to pay a debenture.

Kimmi,

Do you know how's the students at SS in DB? Most of them are foreigner or local? As I am living in Tung Chung, so do you know any school bus service at SS? THANKS!!

Kimmi,
I called Ms. Sabita in this morning to get some info. about school bus sevice from Tung Chung to DB. She said that they don't have any school bus service. But anyway, I sent the application form to SS already.

Jaetee, in the UK system that applies to most of the international schools in HK, primary year 1 (P1) starts at around age 5, but many international schools have nursery and reception years prior to that. These are also equivalent to K1 and K2 in kindergartens, and are for 3 and 4 year olds. For schools which do have reception class, it's difficult to skip that class and do kindergarten instead until P1, because their P1 class will be full with the kids who did reception class.

It seems most people do K1 and K2 here, which they would not in western countries, which I think is partly influenced by the local school system, where the "good" schools do not accept children into P1 who have not attained a certain standard of Chinese writing ability taught in K2.

Kimmi,

I called Ms. Sabita again this morning to confirm my daughter's application? She said that the school accepted my application but not sure am or pm class. Anyway, i would go to visit the school some time within this few month.

Your daughter most proberly will be in the pm class because there is a waiting list for the am classes. My daughter is in the pm class and although recently we were offered a place in the am class, Ive kept her in the pm class as there's less children and she now has other activities she does in the mornings.

Kimmi,

Actually, I prefer my daughter to attend in the am class. Because she usually goes to sleep at 1-3pm everyday. You said that there is a waiting list for the am class already. So there are so many parents like to apply this school. Because i always think that discovery bay is a small place/ town. How many students in each classand how many classes in pm class?

What kind of other activities does your daughter join in the morning?

Btw, do you know which apartment is nearby the SS school? Because if i let my daughter to attend this school, i must need to move in to DB.

Thank you so much for your assistance!!

Ms Sabita will be able to inform you about the waiting list and class numbers. DB is a fairly small place compared to some places in HK but there is a hell of alot of kids there. DB is a great family place. Thats why people often move there once they have kids or thinking of starting a family. There is plenty of apartment complexes close to the plaza, where SS house is situated. The best thing for you to do is come over to DB visit SS House and look around, if you like what you see go and talk to an estate agent about apartments. Good Luck
