Hi Dmitrois

DB is a place your wife will either love or hate, it certainly is not for everyone! I also know the schools are hard to get into there as it is an expat enclave. It would however be convenient for you to get to Central.

Don't dismiss the island as a place to live. You will be surrounded by more school choices and its social for you wife and family, especially south side like Repulse Bay and Stanley. It will depend on your housing allowance as to the experience they will have. You can get townhouses with gardens and space and the beach is at your door step.

Many schools registrars are off until mid August so nothing much happens until then. If you want the children to get back into an English Grammar school, I would suggest you look at one of the leading international schools CIS, GSIS, FIS (english curriculum). Some of the schools follow the IB here in primary and this is a nightmare for re-entering back to UK schools.

As mentioned in a previous post, some schools have a priority for those that are relocating. Consider Harrow out in the Gold Coast. Only issue is it is a long commute back to Central but will ensure an education which will slot back to your home country. Pokfulam on the island is a close to Central (10 mins) and an Ok commute to Gold Coast to Harrow. I know a lot are doing it and say it works.

Sai Kung is lovely, green but remote and can be isolating for new comers in my experience. It's the place people go to after they have lived in HK for a while and want more privacy and open space. When I first came here I was sure we'd move there and after looking at it, I thought it could be quite a lonely place and I didn't mind a bit of 'built up' actually.

Good luck.

Oh that's a pity Kellett said they're full for Year 2. However, it's amazing how fast even "2 year" waitlists move in HK with the expat relocations - I have heard of multiyear waitlists depleting in the space of a summer :) The 100K debenture at Kellett depreciates over 7 years - so yes it's nonrefundable if you stay the full 7 but if by chance you had to move out of HK after 1 year, you get most of it (6/7ths) back. HK Academy is another great option close to Sai Kung, although not a UK curriculum school as you'd prefer (it follows the IB curriculum).
