Stand and Deliver: My most recent birth experience

I never did get that green beer! Who wants to take me out for one?!

Me! I am living so close to where you delivered your angel.

Honestly, when you're in so much pain, you still remember so much details? You're unbelievable. I already decided to get epidural when i reached hospital. You are really one brave women with so much power and strength.

Oh, now that you deliver, you future post will be about motherhood instead of everything pre-natal, birth plan and ..... ;P

He he he. You live on HK Island East? We will probably have to make several more trips back to the hospital in the coming weeks--you should come meet us for a drink (maybe not beer but...).

I remember the details because I was unmedicated--the pain makes the details (at least some of them) even more vivid. I was fully present at the birth of my child (mind, body, soul--all very clear)--utilizing the natural pain-killers my body was producing to get me through.

I really implore you to reconsider the epidural thing because it's not a perfect solution for the pain and can lead to more complications for you and the baby. People think that epidurals are not risky but they are.

Anyway, hmmm...not sure what I'll write about here on this forum now that the baby is born but who knows, maybe I'll become a doula or midwife or something. Wouldn't that be crazy?

LOL! U r a brave one Thanka2. If I went through half of what you went through, I'd have just 1 child!
Honestly, I have so much respect for you and the strength you have shown us ladies on this forum in the last couple of years :-)

Thank you, Quasimother. Coming from you this especially a high compliment and very affirming.

Yes, heng fa chuen in Chai Wan.

Doula or midwife? I wont want you, you'll stop me from getting my epidural. Haha. Kidding.

Enjoying bonding with your little new arrival. :)

THanks that did help to think of it that way, actually. I would really really love to be more ready for this but I am afraid I won't be very ready since I'm having a hard time finding classes anywhere in ENGLISH other than on HK Island. I am going to a one-time class at our hospital in Cantonese with my husband translating for me once, and that's all I've got so far...

Thanka2 that was such a great birth story and so good you got what you wanted - we share the same philosophy about birthing so congratulations and awesome to know that you did this in Hong Kong. You did have me laughing, especially about the poo and the noise, I had both those experiences and there is nothing you can do about either- can't believe the nurses hadn't seen/heard it before!!! Maybe that is because of the high caesarean rate here. It is hard enough to achieve a natural, drug free no intervention birth anywhere in the Western world, but especially here. In the unlikely event that I am lucky enough to have another baby I will definitely be following some of your tips, especially as I think I would also go public. Looking forward to hearing about your new baby

I'm at 38 weeks and I'm hoping to go unmedicated and natural as possible. My first delivery was long like yours...about 52 hours from start to finish. It was a prolonged labour with very little productivity so I asked for an induction a day and a half after I checked into the hospital and we had already laboured for 12 hours at home. I also had back labour so i was exhausted. They broke my waters and started the syntocin and I had to get epidural which allowed me to rest. I really wanted to squat but the epidural prevented me from doing that. They inclined the bed as much as they could. I've been having practice contractions for the last couple weeks and baby is 2/5 engaged. I'm hoping he's coming soon as he's getting bigger and bigger. I really hope to have a similar experience you had with your baby girl's birth!

thanka, thanks for the post. i was so happy when i got your sms! congratulations to you....but i gotta tell you...after two c-sections and no labour at all...i actually feel better about my births! LOL! although, i really envy the feeling of empowerment you must have felt to hold your little one after going through all of that!
