QBS Primary 1

Hi,

My son is entering P1 at QBS this September. With a December birthday, he is the youngest of his kindy friends entering primary and not as mature. So I am quite worried about him getting bullied at Primary school.
Any current QBS parents who let me know whether there is any bullying from older kids at QBS Primary School? Also how much time do they have for lunch? My son seldom eats his snack at Kindy as he wants to spend most of his break time playing so I am worried about him not eating anything during lunch break when he goes to P1 - especially since it is a full day instead of half day . I wasnt too worried for kindy as he ate his lunch before attending pm kindy and gets a snack 4 hours later when he gets home.
I am thinking of training him to eat lunch from his lunch box during the summer holidays..
Finally which P1 teacher is good? We have the orientation on June 5th and will meet his teacher then and hope I can ask questions on the above to the teachers as well but appreciate the comments from the QBS parents too

Thanks!

We're not at QBS but usually the older kids and younger kids are separated and do not have breaks at the same time or place. Hence there is less chance of incidents. Plus there is a playground monitor to keep an eye on things. Not sure if they do this at QBS, but a Y1 child is usually paired up with a Y5/6 who is their bus buddy and they walk them to the bus after school.

Lunch/snacks, the EA will keep an eye on the kids to make sure they eat. Only once they've finished their lunch, will they go out to play. I had a very slow eater before P1, and meals would take forever. Now he wolfs down his meals so he can go out to play. This also happens at home. Which is a real PAIN. :)

Thanks ESFMum! Your comments were very helpful. I will be sure to ask if they have the buddy system at QBS too at orientation day since my boy will be taking the school bus.
I look foward to the day that my boy can eat all of his own lunch by himself but eating it too quickly can be a real pain.
Cheers!

I sent you a pm earlier this week already. All kids have break at the same time, and basically same place (few exceptions). Lunch is separated in Lower School (Y1-3, first eat / then play) and Upper School (Y4-6m, first play / then eat) but they will do rotations at the roof tops for certain classes.

Hi MommyTo3,

Thanks for your reply again! I had trouble getting my PM opened yesterday and couldnt figure out why but was successful this morning:o

Have sent you a PM too.

Cheers

Hi mummies,

Happy flipper, same here. My eldest boy will be going to ESF Year 1 this August and he has the same eating habit as well, munching slow and take his own sweet time to finish a meal. I try not to worry too much about it and monitor along the way.

Sorry to tab on your thread for a question, can anyone advice me on the lunchbox that you have for your kids? I do not want to use plastic container though some claimed to be BPA free. I am looking at other alternatives like Klean Kanteen, but am not sure is it really leak proof and can it keep warm if i put it in a thermal lunch bag?

Thanks.

Hi Oreomama,

Are you talking about those metal water bottles? do they also have thermal metal lunch boxes?

I am thinking about using those lift the flap-on-both-sides plastic containers as that is about the only food boxes that my son can open himself so far beside the single cover containers. Containers which are heat proof normally need more strength to screw them open and if not screw back tightly can leak. In orientation today - the vice principal was saying that we need to train our little ones to be able to open their lunchbox themselves over summer. Hmm - I am interested to know also from other parents whether they provide hot food lunches to their kids and what sort of containers works best.

Cheers

We bought a thermal metal lunch box from Wing On. We do pastas and fried rice for lunch sometimes.
