Fortunate enough to have a choice - reception class
Anyone care to share their experience with either school - esp CIS as a nonasian or non chinese?

Cis

hi nat1969,
i'm a swedish and my son is currently in reception this year. I honestly think CIS is a great school. Although when i just sent my kid i was worried about the 'stuck up' people rumours, but i realized it was all very false! Everybody in CIS is very nice and polite, they seem to have very very good manners. I think the school itself gives an acceptable amount of work to do, it's not too much and not too little, and they're very good at preparing my son for primary school later on next year. The teachers there always encourages my son, and always has possitive comments about my son.
I have also had a choice to actually send my son to HKIS but then when i went to visit their campground i found that there were a couple of older students who did not seem to respect school ground property and i could hear occasional cussing in the background. This was why i chose CIS, as i thought it gave a better influence to my son. I hope you'll find this information useful!
Good luk.

Hi D1229,

I'm very glad that you have positive experiences with CIS.

Here I would like to ask a thing.... Do teachers split kids into groups according to their learning abilities?? Do they give challenging materials to academically advanced kids?

Appreciate if you can commnt on this!

NOA

Hi nat1969,
From what i understand, they start seperating you into ability levels in secondary but only in the chinese language level. However in reception they do have a teaching group called Rainbow room, where children with reading or talking problems in english go there while the normal class is going on with their english lessons. They do not give any class harder things to do or anything they're all equal classes.

Hope this helps!
Cheers
