No school for us, any suggestion for temporary situation in Hong Kong?

So you're basically looking at Year 2 and Year 4 in ESF. QBS should be possible, it's not that oversubscribed (but still is), not sure about Kennedy. Do you have any idea where you want to live? Or areas you have completely ruled out?

Have you used the Corporate Surety Scheme (see below).

Corporate Surety Scheme

ESF introduced a new Corporate Surety scheme in 2007 to enable companies to secure school places for expatriate employees before their arrival in Hong Kong over the summer months. The scheme runs from 1 January to 30 June of each year. There are limited Surety places. The surety scheme is now open for application for August 2010 admissions. Please click here for the Surety Application Form. For queries, please email [email protected].

Try Hk Academy --they are moving from Stubbs Road to Kennedy Town in August 2010 for 3 years and might be a good option for you.

Also how about Singapore International School (SIS) as I know they have an emphasis on the Mandarin. Or Kiangsu Chekiang at North Point for a couple of years?

How about the French international but the French stream (as your post says you are based in Paris so i thought perhaps your children may speak French?) as I have heard it is easier to get into the French stream at FIS than the International stream.

I am sure something will open up at ESF over the summer so try not to worry - I know it is hard though!

If we want to live in around Happy Valley or Jardin's lookout, is Bradbury only the choice? If Bradbury is only our choice, then there is not so much hope for us, right? I'll call the school tomorrow.

QBS Zone:Wanchai from the east of Garden Road/Cotton Tree Drive (up to the northern boundary of Stubbs Road/Queen’s Road East), the north side of Happy Valley and Causeway Bay (includes Broadwood Road, Link Road, Ventris Road and Leighton Hill) and all the Causeway Bay hotels. Tai Hang Road, Jardine’s Lookout and Mount Butler, North Point, Shaukeiwan, Chai Wan, Shek O, Red Hill, Turtle Cove and Tai Tam. Tai Tam Road to the junction with Stanley Gap Road and Stanley Village Road to include The Manhattan, Faber Court, Belgravia Heights, Blue Waters and Tai Tam Gardens.

If u r open to Montessori Education, you can try International Montessori School Elementary program. They are opening up another new class this coming Fall.

Wow, you really know the place. Thanks a lot. I'll pull the map. I called the school. ESF said without a home address in hong kong, they can not "activate" my application. I am not there yet. I won't have a leasing contract until end of June. I am also requesting a "corporate surety" from our company. It's like I am racing with time..

HI, chubbysan:
Thanks for your advise. I'll check Montessori school out. I don't think I have many choices here. HKIS just informed that there are 45 applicants in the "waiting pool". They operate "waiting pool" instead of "waiting list"..if there is a seat open up, they will pick the best applicant" for their school...I am giving up...:(

I heard a rumour that you have to be given a place in an ESF school in your catchment area - any truth to this? We are in DB and our ESF school is Bradbury (don't get me started on why its not Discovery College in DB itself ... !). Do we have to be offered a place at Bradbury if we apply on time? What happens to expat kids (like the OP) who cannot get into an International or ESF school?

I have a few years up my sleeve as my child is only 2 - Feb 2008 child but am a bit concerned with the way the HK school system is with limited places and waiting lists!

Thanks
