Moving from US with 2 small children...

We will be moving to Hong Kong in a couple of months and would really appreciate some recommendations on great service apartments in the city to live with young children (2 months and 2.5yrs). I would prefer somewhere with lots of other children, playground equipment, and children activities. I know, a lot of people on this forum have recommending living in Discovery Bay (which would be fine), but our first choice would be in the city. Preferably, central or Wai Chi or any areas close to those! We have previously lived in Shanghai so we are accustomed to living right in the city, so that's why at the moment I am preferring the city (I could change my mind later). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Kind regards,

Cheriee

Service apt

Hi, we moved here from the USA a couple of weeks ago. Our children will be going to school in Jardine's Lookout and my husband works in Central Plaza, so we chose the Ellipsis in Happy Valley for a good base to find ourselves an apt (we ended up getting one in Mid levels afterall). The Ellipsis has a lovely pool where we've met children of all ages (our boys are 4 and 6). We get trams everywhere (easier with bigger kids). There's a playground 2 min walk away at the end of the racecourse (where the boys love running too!) and there are lots of shops and cafes etc. Pool only open from 2pm-10pm on week days, be warned! Good luck.

We lived in Kornhill Apartments for a month and loved the location for its convenience. It is situated above a Japanese departmental store called Jusco, where we got our sushi fix and other yummy Japanese treats. It is also close to City Plaza which has an ice-skating rink and ToysRUs. Close to Quarry Bay Park where you'll meet other kids. There is an international school closeby so you'll find expats here too. Best part of if is that it is located above the Tai Koo MTR station, which means you are 15 minutes away from Central and Causeway bay where you'll get all the children's programs that you can think of. The downside is that there is not much open green space to walk around in.That's why we decided to move to somewhere with more open spaces that isn't right smack in the city.

Mid-levels if you want to live in Central, but the southside of HK Island is sooo child-friendly - tons of American families. There are larger bldings where meeting others will be a cinch.

When we moved to HK from NYC, I wanted to live in Central too, but soon realized southside was so much better for my child. It's worth looking at in addition to mid-levels.

If you are looking for service apartments would say either the ones in Parkview or there are also some in the convention centre hong kong side near the Hyatt. Think most of the other are very much more corp orientated.
