Looking for some More Insight on Kellett School

We recently visited HK, but couldn't arrange a tour of Kellett. We have heard very good things and it will be among the schools we apply to but would love to hear from anyone, particularly parents, with some first-hand knowledge of the school. My kids are American but have been in a British Curriculum school to date. Thanks

My daughter is in Reception class there. She enjoys going to school every day. The children are learning a lot, are taught to read well, even know all about various planets of thy solar system. They are academic and nurturing at the same time and seem to offer a good quality of education.

Also interested in this please! does anyone have any insight into kellett's senior section, specifically the 6th form? I'm interested in the A-levels program but would very much like to know about the teachers/students community and whether there are any unpleasant experiences i should look out for when dealing with this school. Any input from a parent or student attending kellett would be very useful thanks!

Not sure what you mean by unpleasant experiences. We've found the school pretty straight forward to deal with. They are quick to take disciplinary action if and when required.

PM me if you have some specific concerns.

could you share your general experience in dealing with the school please? I'm interested to know whether the teaching is up to scratch and consistent, if there is adequate disciplinary action from the school and the attitude of the students in general, what grade is your child in, if you don't mind me asking? I'm planning to enter the 6th form. thanks!

We just finished Y7 and have been impressed with the school so far. Teaching is top notch. The kids are assessed frequently. Did notice from the newsletters that the y12 kids received extra support in March to prepare for their mock exams. The school even encouraged students to email teachers for 1-on1 revision help.

sounds good, would also be interested to know whether there has been any trouble with drug abuse in the older grades and whether the younger years are diverse enough in terms of nationality, i have a younger cousin in 7th grade who is interested in kellett, don't know whether an asian would stick out like a sore thumb surrounded by all the other brits and if this would lead to problems with discrimination

Haven't heard, but drugs are in all the schools and it would be naive to say it isn't an issue at Kellett.

We are an Asian family and my daughter's friends are primarily Eurasian. Hope this helps.

Squaring the circle

I was the one who started this thread and we did end up sending our two children to Kellett. We have been very impressed with the school for both the quality of the teaching and to the professionalism of the administration. The teaching was creative, attentive and pretty thorough and are children both transitioned well after moving from Europe. My son just finished the 6th year and is going into the secondary school now and my daughter completed the 4th year. The facilities at the new Kowloon campus are also amazing. We recently attended the end of year performance by the 6th year students and the evening ended with the principal reading out a text written by each student about their experience there during the year. It was very reassuring to hear how enthusiastic the children were about Kellett and many of them said Kellett really helped them build their confidence with several saying it was by far the best school they had ever been too. I asked my children whether Asian or any other nationalities were made to feel different at Kellett and they both said they didn't see any sign of that and that there was also no bullying at the school. As far as drugs, my kids haven't been exposed to anything yet but the school does take the issue seriously and had an assembly for the parents to discuss the issue and explain their policy. If there is one thing I might quibble about is the lack of homework in the lower grades. The philosophy is that school work should be completed in school so there shouldn't be the need to give a lot of homework. I guess I am old school and I still think that it reinforces study habits and better prepares kids for what they will eventually face, but I believe that my attitude seems to be in the minority these days. Anyway, we have been very pleased with our first year there. PM if you want any more details.

Coming from ESF we weren't used to homework either. I think it was no more than 20 mins per week. Y7 was a big shock for my girl, honestly. She was getting homework daily from different teachers. One big juggling act and also tests which she didn't know how to revise for. The first couple of months was a huge adjustment and she finally figured out how to manage her time.
