Looking for current Yr 1 parent of Shatin Junior School

Hi! My child is going to have an interview at Shatin Junior School in the coming February.

Can anyone share what the interview will be like for parents? Are they going to interview my child only? How do you find the school? Academically? Behavior of the students?

We've been told that the Interview is designed to assess the child's spoken and comprehension of the English language.

The kids will be in small groups of 6-8. If you know of anyone that has the same interview date/time as you it is worth getting the kids together for a playdate, so they recognise a familiar face.

They will be read a story and the kids will be asked simple questions relating to the story and also sequencing activities.

They will also be asked to draw a few pictures of their family and to talk about family members.

Hi,

No, I don't think parents are interviewed. You are given a short talk and tour of the school while the kids are being interviewed.

Is your elder boy going to primary? Or your girl?
I am a mother of two boys, the elder one is going to primary.
He is born in Feb, 2002
 
Sha Tin Junior Interview

Hi Beibie,

My son (born Mar 2002) and has just got a 1st round interview with Sha Tin Junior for next Wednesday! Quite surprised bcos he has no points whatsoever though I do think it's bcos I am a BBC (husband is HK Chinese). Would be very grateful if you could share your child's interview experience at Sha Tin Junior with me as I don't know what to expect at all.

Congratulations! We were told at the interview they would ask the kids a few basic questions about their family/favorite foods and they may ask them to draw a picture of their family. They may also read a book and ask questions related to the story. Basically they want to test the child's command of English.

The teachers had already been to his Kindergarten a few weeks earlier and had observed the kids and chatted with them.
