According to ITS, the interview practice sessions and classes mimic what a child will experience in a 'real' school interview, so that children are prepared for the conditions and are familiarized with the assessment format. The last thing a parent wants is for their child to feel intimidated on the interview day or shy about entering a new classroom with new children. Interview practise classes are small with 4-6 students.
Emphasis is placed on:
· Developing a child's social skills and the ability to follow instructions, as these things are crucial to success in the classroom setting.
· Building a child's fluency in English and the ability to speak in longer, more complex sentences, plus the openness to speak with children and adults confidently.
· Team and group work. Puzzles and activities are set up for children to solve together, as sociability and problem solving are both important in the interview setting.
· Story time is done towards the end of the class and the teacher asks the children questions about the story, helping build on their creativity and listening skills.
Parents are sent a detailed report at the end of each course so they can better understand their child's strengths and weaknesses. The classes are fun and children have a good time, which is most important. If children can learn to enjoy the interview setting they will have no problem impressing school representatives. Sessions are an hour long each. Six sessions cost HK$1,800.
