Interview at GSIS

My daughter will have an interview at GSIS soon for the admission of Year One, I would appreciate if I could have any inputs from you guys what will be tested during the interview?? As my daughter is an intelligent girl but her drawback is very shy in the new environment, I'm afraid she cannot exert her abilities during the interview! Hope you can help! Tks.

From what my girl told me, they asked a lot of questions. The teacher will show the kid a "funny book". My girl said that the content of the book is upside down and there are misspelled words. The teacher asked my girl if she knows how to spell the correct form. They also asked about numbers, like skip counting by 2s, 5s, etc. They also asked about simple addition. My girl was also asked to draw. These are the things that my girl told me after the interview but I do not know if they asked other things as well.

Thanks TAMRO! I also asked my daughter what has been tested as soon as she finished the interview. Almost the same of what you have told but she said she was not asked to draw the picture nor read the book, so I am worried that she would not pass in the interview. I've never ever thought that there are such long waiting lists among those international schools in HK, do you have any alternatives beside GSIS?

My girl got accepted. I hope that your girl will have a good result. GSIS is a school difficult to get in.

Congratulations! Tamro! How lucky your girl is. As I heard during the interview on June 3, there are 2 placements only in Year One but there are more than 200 candidates. I have not got the results yet, I hope my girl will be as lucky as yours!

Yes, then our girls will be school friends. I do not think that 200 candidates for 2 spaces. My girl's interview was much earlier and thus I knew the result a while ago. If your girl get accepted, you will be notified very soon, I think in about two weeks or so. GSIS is very selective about their students. At the time my girl went to interview, I was told that 140 candidates for 36 spaces because 20 went directly from kinder to Year 1. The lady has said that last year there were still 2 spaces available at the start of school year. They are not taking students as space available but as they meet the right student they want. The lady has said that they are looking for student that can fit into the school. I heard that the schoold is very academic and it maybe the reason that they are so selective about their students.

Hi Happymam, was your girl finally selected by GSIS? My boy has given interview few days back for grade 1 and was asked all the same questions but was sent back in 1 hour and 15 min with 6 other kids while the last (eighth one) kid was held back. Does that mean only last one has chance and my kid is already rejected? How long was your kid inside the interview room?
