Is International Christian School in Shatin a popular international school? Does anyone know anything about this school? Is it hard to get in? My kids don't know one word of Chinese, will this school be an option for us?

I know some people w/ kids there and they are quite happy. One of them had a child graduate last year and he's a 1st year student at Boston University now.

I don't know how hard it is to get in. They also require debentures.

It's English medium - so language would not be a problem. They are an explicitly *Christian* school, so you might want to learn more about that side and see if it fits w/ you and your family.

It is not very popular international school compared to Hong Kong International School, Canadian International School, Chinese International School or German Swiss International School
It is not hard to get in because they owe East Asia Bank a lot of money from building their new school and they are trying to pay back the loans. They used to be selective but because they have loans to pay, they have started accepting more people.
It is fine that your child does not know Chinese. It is an English medium school If they are going into highschool (9th-12th grade) they will have an option to take French as well. Some people take other lanuages outside of ICS as well.

I am a current parent of two children at ICS. We moved to HK from the US last summer and after touring many many schools, we found ICS to be the best fit for our children. The curriculum is top notch and the teaching staff is first rate. ICS had the highest scores in HK last year on the SAT. The class of 2011 has kids accepted to Stanford, Harvard, University of Michigan, Parsons School of Design, Northwestern University....just to name a few.

It is not easy to get into as an earlier poster claimed. The admissions process is quite rigorous and many children are turned away each year. One thing to know-this is an international school in that many of the children hold US/Canadian/UK passports but to look at the school, it is 95% Chinese.
