Hey everyone,

I've been in HK for 3 years now with my husband who has unfortunately just been made redundant. So, I will probably be going back to work teaching full time here instead of us going back to Australia....

Anyway, basically this means that I am now starting to get stressed as to 'when are we ever going to start a family?'. I am 33 and beginning to wonder if it will ever happen. I don't want to get much older before we do. How old were you when you had your first? Am I stressing too much?

Thanks!

What does your husband think? I was 33 and had my first but really these days I know first time mums at 40 - it all depends on what you want I guess...

I was one of the youngest mums at my mothers group in Oz - 31. Most of the were between 35-early 40s.

Though, ... u can still have a baby and be on a teaching salary with one parent staying at home :-) As long as you've worked for 40 weeks on your teaching job... you'll receive your maternity rights. And you've found a supportive work environment.

We were raising a child on one teaching income for awhile. It was tight but we made it!

it seems to me that many expats wait until "later" in life to have kids... maybe it's the whole idea of "living life fully first" then moving on to having a family.

many of my friends "at home" had kids MUCH earlier than i did.

In australia the average age for the first time mother is 31...I was the youngest at 33 to have a baby out of all my friends...it seems to be getting later and later these days so no panic :)

I'm 28 and had my first at 27. In Australia, many of my friends my age have already had kids - my best friend already has three!! But in Hong Kong, I'm one of the youngest out of everyone I know. I also notice that my husband's friends (he's Chinese) aren't even married yet - only a couple of them are married at 30!! I don't think there's a "right" time to have kids - it's just whatever works for you.
