Hong Kong Academy

win win

Hi, are there any moms who send the kids to Hong Kong Academy? Any comment will be very much welcome! Thanks!

I have 2 kids in HKA (5 and 3 years old). It's a great school, both of my kids love it. Teachers are great and lots of fun activities. Parents are expected to help out a lot such as storytelling, and boardgame and so on. Yes, it's very small class, 13-18 students per class.

Best regards, Amanda

Thanks Amanda.
My husband is going to the Open House tomorrow to view it for our children of the same age.
The fees are higher than we were hoping to have to pay but it's looking increasingly like we aren't going to get an ESF place.
Was it your first choice of school? Did you look at others?

My first choice was IMS. My girlfriend's kids are there, and I think it won't suit my kids very well after talk to my girlfriend. It's too tough for my kids. So you want find the school that match your kid personality. And I think we did the right choice for both of our kids. My kids are shy and won't do well in there. Anyway, this is the 3rd year for my son. We love it except mandarin is not up to my standard. Just let me know, whatelse do you want to know.

Best regards, Amanda

Hi, My son also goes to HKA.
He likes the school so much, so he've never refused to go to school.
However they don't have any waiting list.
so I'm still wondering how they picked a my son's application form.
We looked ESF,too. but too big class size for my son.

hi amanda or anyone else with a kid in HKA,,,,i have heard that they r changing their location soon/....do u know where they r shifting and when? also their current infrastucture is not so good, quite dangerous with a lot of steps....did u apply to Bradbury as well when u were seeking admission? any advice would help....my son is due for a Bradbury interview soon and i am not sure if i should apply to GSIS or HKA since they r the next closest to us..

mushi,

there was an article in the SCMP last month that the Gov't offered them a site in Chai Wan to expand, I guess it was not the one they wanted and the school rejected it.

From SCMP: The Yue Wan Estate site, currently occupied by TWLK Mrs Fung Yiu Hing Memorial Primary School, was offered to the academy last month after it had originally applied for a site in Cheung Man Road, Chai Wan, which the Education Bureau instead gave to French International School.

We don't like what govt offers us, and our school is trying very hard to get a nicer location for us at the moment. We don't know where is our school's final location yet. I think HKA is big on parents' willingness on supporting school and in all aspects and honest about any concerns with kids. So you can show them that and be yourself during the interview, then it's should be OK. I don't know how they decide which one to take or not. But I am glad that we got in. My first kid did not go for a interview at HKA, and our interview in IMS was a bad one. Our second one had a interview at HKA, but we were told he is in for sure beforehand. Because of the sibling priority. Any way, Good lucky.

Best regardas, Amanda
