Homeopathy for eczema

Hi mummybee thanks for the name of doctor wu I found his number on the Hong Kong medical board on the internet. I think may be we should just give it a try. The reason I feel like he should some how clear up on his own is because two times before he did. The first time at 5 weeks old (with a change of diet and moisturiser) the second time it flared up and went after I tested drinking soya the third time unfortunately it has not gone away and his skin flared up after I tested drinking some milk and at that time I was still drinking orange juice as it had not occurred to me that this could also be a problem. Now I am back to the diet that I have been on since he was five weeks old and his skin has not gone down so I am a little bit worried I can't think what is different in my diet now than then. At three months his skin was almost clear on his face and he just had some rash around his neck I wish I could turn back the clock and had never tried to drink some milk. Everyone including my family members think I'm nuts and that diet is nothing to do with it. Most doctors said his skin is so bad already why are you worrying about what you are eating!!! However I am sure I am on the right track I have contacted quite a few people in UK who have had or their children have had eczema and they are all sure that diet is the key factor. The only reason I worry about deleting more foods is simply for his health and mine I concerned that he is not getting enough nuitrients. Did you take any vitamin suppliments?

Hi Emma, yes I do take the Blackmore breastfeeding supplements (I got mine from aust - midwife recommended cos it also has natural omega 3/6/9s)AND calcium (VitC added for increased absorption) pills every day when I was BFing. i too worry abt the aftereffects of diet restriction. and honestly, my BF did taste different, and less fat/milky you know. Whether this is less nutritous to my child, I can't be sure. But she is always healthy and weigh 50% on growth curve - she is tall too for her age.

That is probably why I started solids on her early at 5.5 months, and only, only give foods in the list specificed by her paed. allergist in Australia ( i can photocpy and give you list if you wish - PM me)

Everyone thot I was crazy to mess up my own body like that but cos I saw an improvement, I persisted. I do want to reiterate that this is my own experience and you yourself have to gauge if restricting your own diet improves things for your son or not. It may not. For me, the improvement was minor but I as the mum noticed it.

Pleae don't cut out everything! at the beginning, i just cut out my egg+bacon+milk+bread breakfast since I suspect something here caused her rashes. I change it to lamb/pear/apple/banana/allergy-free bread(they taste foul though). rashes gone from face but neck rash persisted. so i cut out meat one at a time. fish, pork and beef - no good; chicken/;amb - no rash. so chicken and lamb diet for me. At 9 mths, pd allergist got her to pepti junior formula, gd decision at hindsight although i so wanted to continue BFing. her rashes were gone and I got my life back.

If you see her now, you wouldn't think she used to have bad eczema (a mother once saw her pigmented scratch marks on her upper arms and thought i was beating her!!!!!!!)

in western countries, yes, diet restriction and allergy seems more accepted.

regarding depriving him nutrients, haha, that was my first question to Dr. Wu when we saw him. he asked me her diet and said she is having a very balanced diet indeed and not to worry. i was told that children can eat one food and thrieve still. My sister's child at one pt eats banana for breakfast, lunch and dinner (she doens;'t ahve allergies) and she was perfectly ok. so long as you plan your son's diet carefully, you will be fine. i am anal when it comes to that.

Incidentally, you might be interested to know that some children ahve worse allergies than you can think. two asian mums told me their kids are allergic to RICE, can you believe it? and one mum told me her child reacted not by eczema but by projectile vomit (he vomited at such force vomit shot across the room) sigh....

Hi JoanneK thanks for the homeopath advise but I worry about making things worse. Do homeopaths give you things for the bath or do they ask you to drink something? If it involves taking anything by mouth I think I will keep clear of that for a while.

I know why people don't like steroids my grandmother used them on her skin until the day she died and basically they dissolved her skin. Her skin became so thin and delicate you only needed to grab her arm and it would go purple. Her skin lost all of its elasticity and she looked like an old prune at 60. However this was in the day when there was little known about the uses and effects of steroids and the doctor would perscribe her toothpaste tube sizes of cream which she would slap on all over!!

I agree with the homepathy view that the eczema is from the inside chinese people also have the same theory I think some of these ideas are correct although I don't know if you saw the newspaper recently a couple gave their 4 month old a herbal drink and they ended up in AE. Still I have tried a herbal bath which I think may have made his body better at least more comfortable I may do it again although I will keep away from his face to avoid any infection.

To mummybee thanks for the offer of the list of foods I think that would be quite useful. What do you mean by "pm" you?

haha, PM means private message. ie you can send a private message to me so i can reply to you privately since not everyone would be itnerested to read this boring list of food items! to send a PM to me, left click on my username mummybee and select "send a private message'. incidentally, if you want to read all previous posts of mine regarding eczema, select "find all postsby mummybee".

i know you're skeptical about a homeopath. it's not naturopath where they give you herbs or supplements. homeopath remedy are given as minute dose where there is NO SIDE EFFECTS. i know it sounds weird how sth can work or even if it doesn't there will be no side effects. i don't know how to explain it. but it's absolutely safe. homeopaths are recognised in western countries & recognised in India like chinese meds is recognised in China. It is so safe that homeopathy is known to be administered for cold, flu & first aid at home without worries.

it is always in the news that someone take some sort of chinese herbs & end up in the ER. and then there is always the ones who take western medicine incorrectly and die too. and some ppl get a surgery done & the surgeon left some surgical tools inside them, and they die. but it doesn't mean western medicine & surgeries are not safe.

i believe if anyone take any kind of remedy without proper knowledge, damage is caused by ignorance. if a person took any remedy under moral registered practitioner (be it homeopath, chinese med or western med), i do not think anything will happen. i've taken chinese herbs under supervision all my life, and recently start learning about homeopathy. i find both to do wonders beyond my expectation, and surely beyond any western medicine can match.

it just aches to hear what you & your children are going thru. because i myslef & my daughter have gone thru the same. i used to cry myslef to sleep cos my daughter's face was scratched so raw & bleeding so much her bedsheets & lovey was spotted with dried blood patches every morning. it's only recently since she's been seeing Dr Sonal, i finally believe she can be healed. i want to share that happiness with you and that's why i spent so much time typing away, while i could be playing with my daughter.:grouphug:

Not sure why but I missed out reading some of the earlier posts:

Gidget, you child allergic to pear huh? pear is indeed one of the least allergenic fruits around! Poor child....but lucikly you can give him apples. I heard papaya is also one of the least allergenic and healthy fruit options - good for helping poo. maybe you wanna try it. I heard from another mummy that rashes caused from fruits are sometimes not fruit-sepcific but due to the acid coming into contact and irritating our babies skin, which is more sensitive than the average baby. So now I religiously wipe daughter's mouth after eating any fruit and it does seem to help. ok if you can't meet cos of work - totally understand.

Someone here mentioned successful use of Dermaveen. Yes, this is an excellent product and I was given a sample to try from the midwives. BUT my daughter broke into horrible rashes with it and I think it was cos of the oatmeal in it. Oatmeal is supposedly good to reduce itch but since my daughter is allergic to oat (and all grains)....What I have success with is Mustela stelatopia and also a product recommended by Katetam anotehr member of this forum called Bioderma. it is a very thick cream and much to my surprise, it cleared up a lot of the pigmented welts on her upper arms. Thanks, Katetam!!!! (Katetam has lots of tips too you can run a search on her posts)

Katetam also advocate NAET, so Emma, if you want to try a homeopath still, you can try Dr. Lynn Lim. I have NOT gone to see her (cos she didn't think we will benefit her treatment!) but I heard she is nice. But she is not cheap. She does a painless test where she would point a metal rod on different parts of babys body to determine food allegies.

Dr. Bradshow in IMI did something similar to my daughter - baby holds onto rod, the other end of rod he would dip into different liquid extracts to get reading of allergy positivity. Well, the test was not accurate on my daughter cos he didn;t pick up her severe egg allergy at all, although I asked him to re-test egg test again (cos by then I already knew she is allergic to eggs). He basically told us to stay away from citrus, chocolate, nuts, wheat, cows milk, well, these are common culprits that we have already been avoding! nothing new. That is why I am so skeptical of IMI. If they cannot ascertain my daughter's allergies from their tet, how can I trust them to treat her? They prescribed drops too but I didn't give to my daughter when I don't know what source they come from (talked to the pharmacist but no help there). Oh yes apparently the test was not accurate cos my daughter was moving too much - movement causes their machine to read inaccurately. Well, how can I stop her from reacting to the rod when it was poking at her toes and feet?? She was only 8 months old so I don;t think she was moving all that much whilst I was holding her. Ah well, enough of this bad experience.... as I said, some people have positive experiences and some don;t.

MamaS, I have replied your PM. Sorry I am so late in replying cos I have forgotten abt your mail. And yes, you are right, I am from SEA mum group!!!! Do I know you personally???? very interesting.... eagerly awaiting your reply....

Go and try Lynn Lim, she is nice and knowledgeable, my baby's eczema is gone with her advice and medicine. But this summer some rashes showed up but not the eczema type before. I have homeopath medicine from her that i give to baby if rashes shows up.

I haven't tried swimming with baby with fear that he might react to chlorine water, anyone knows if it's OK to dip him in the pool now? he is 10 months old.

mummybee, i have PM you now. Thanks.

it's Dr, Sonal from IMI. Dr Bradshaw couldn't treat my daughter either. He treated me & my husband well. I think he's better in adults. Dr Sonal is new at IMI. she cam from India directly earlier this year. she's a specialist in children. you can read about her at IMI's website. even Dr. Rupa at IMI only helped my daughter a little. but it seems like Dr. Sonal is better at children cos a lot of their children patients have switched to Dr. Sonal.

Dr. Sonal's reputation is so good in India, the ppl actually fly from the US & UK to see her. so we're lucky that she's chosen to come to HK.
