Homeopathy for eczema

my girl got bad genes from husband too, who has allergies all his life. In and out of hospital when young apparently & nearly kick the bucket several times from analyphtic shock. In those days, they blame it on acute asthma and flu.
dread dread dread summer. Last summer we went back to wintery Melbourne for 6 wks to cool off her flare-ups. will do the same this yr if things are bad.
we moved from central to TKO round Clearwater Bay coupla months back and was the best thing we did for her. not talking abt reduction of smog and pollution, but the breeze coming from the Bay is extremely cooling ie temp here is gd few degrees lower than that in stifling Central. she definitely scratches less.
God forbid polyester! Bad enough that HK clothes mislabel their clothing as 100% cotton when they are clearly utterly NOT! have become expert spotting the real cotton from the mixed or fakes. Story of my life....LOL

Hi Moms, update on my baby's check-up with Lynn. We decided not to go for NAET as baby's eczema has cleared up almost 90%, she just gave me allergy drops, drops when weather changed to hot/cold, and foods to follow as baby starts on solids now, aside from my vitamins to take while i still Bf.

We still don't know what causes the rashes til now, it's still there on and off, but not as bad as before. I suspect it's from the clothes/hot weather.

Conclusion - i'm happy that we've seen her, i highly recomment that you try her if you don't mind spending 1k for first consultation. She won't jump into NAET right away, she has suggestions to try out first to see if it gets improved.

Hi ladies, I have just caught up with this thread, and am very interested in everyone's experience and advice.
Thought I would share ours.

Our son is nearly 8 months old. He was full breast fed up until 5 1/2 months. We then introduded rice cereal mixed with a small amount of{cow's milk based} formula and his skin flared and came out in hives immediately. So in our case we are able to directly associate the excema with his food.
We have tried goats milk formula, but that was copiously vomitted. We also introduced a number of different solids but as the rash never went away we were never really sure which were the problems. Certain foods mainly proteins caused a hive outbreak as well as a rash.

Like others we have not tried soy, as some beleive that the oestrogen in this is not ideal for an infant, especially in a boy. Also as others said with a protien intolerance I understand soy is usually rejected as well.

Finally we went to an allergy specialist. The solution that has worked for us is to first of all stop feeding ALL solids. We wet wrapped him with Ellemet every night for a week to completely clear the excema first. During that time we only fed with breast milk and supplemented with NeoCate formula. This is really expensive {nearly HK$500 per can} but we found our son refused to drink the over the counter hypo allergenic formulas. Needless to say at that price I will be breast feeding for a while longer! I have cut all dairy out of my own diet, and will also cut out any other things he reacts to. For example I already know he can't take chicken, so I won't eat that either.

Now that the rash has gone we are starting again re introducing solid foods. We make everything from scratch as even, say rice cereals, can have additives that are not listed on the packaging. We introduce a new food every 3 days and any time he gets a rash we stop that food and clear the skin with Elemet before introducing another, so it is a really slow process. Right now he is only taking steamed rice which we puree and mashed apple. Hopefully we will discover other foods soon that he can take, but he at least eats a good amount of that 3 x a day.

Our specialist has reiterated that his nutrients are coming from the milk {or Neocate} and any solids he eats is a bonus, as that part of his limited diet I found a bit challenging. I have held off with the allergy testing until he is a year old, as I've been advised the testing may not be conclusive until then.

Day to day, now that the excema has been completely cleared we only need to use sorbelene cream to make sure his skin is well moisturised.
We use an emoilent in his bath water rather than soap based washes and shampoos etc.
Good luck to everyone else, I hope that you find some solutions too.
 
Gidget, all that you did / said in your post sounds spookily familiar to what we went through with my daughter, with the exception that she is not allergic to chicken so that was the ONLY food I took whilst breastfeeding and she takes Pepti-Junior, one step down from neocate. My daughter is allergic to apples though. Maybe you want to try pear too, cos it is the least allergenic fruits known.

Read my story, almost same as yours, but my baby's eczema started at 4 months, we were able to control it before he started solids, my allergist have foods to be given each month, no no to rice cereals, so my baby hasn't eaten it yet, only vege and fruits, but also limited, so far, so good - fingers crossed!
 
hi gidget, i think us mom all went thru more or less the same horrifying experience seeing our most precious' skin flaring up in angry red.

i started my daughter on solids at 6 mths (when their digestive system is more ready for food other than bm), i introduced food once a week. for the 1st month, the poor girl was just eating apples, rice cereal, & pear. as far as i know, for baby's first year the most nutritious thing is bm, whatever you eat, he eats. drinking bm also introduces new tastes & nutrients to their body. hence breastfed babies supposedly develop less allergies in life cos they were exposed to them on "day one". introducing them to solid is to help them with new tastes & texture. it's only after the 1st year, they need more than bm. there is NO HURRY in introducing tons of different food to him before the first year. when you think of it as "introduction" to the world of foods, then we're in no hurry. i didn't let my daughter eat ANY kind of animal product (fresh milk, any meat, yogurt, cheese, egg) before she turned one. but then that's just me. i have been known to be extra careful.

if your son is 8mths, you can start with fruits & vegetables. it's easier on their little tummies. there's no worry that if for several days, he drinks only bm. whenever my daughter was sick before she was one, she would refused solids, and only drink bm. in fact, whenever she was sick before she was one, she would gain weight instead of lose, cos she was only drinking bm.

well, welcome to the ezcema baby club, rest assure, his allergies will only get better with age & lots of love. =)
 
Thanks ladies, sorry to hear you are all in the same boat.

Mummy Bee, pear was the first thing I tried after we cleared his skin up, but he gets a rash from that! Which is odd, as it's meant to be the least allergenic. It's a slow process and so far, still all we've found that doesn't cause excema is steamed rice and apples.

JoanneK, I do think my son puts on more weight when he just takes milk {BM or Neocate} too.
He was eating 3 meals a day of about a cup each before I stopped his solids. His weight gains were still very low though, no matter how much I fed him, as he couldn't digest it all and had to poop it all out again without processing, and so was doing so up to 5 times per day.
Now he is on just rice and apple, I have him back up to 3 meals a day, plus his milk feeds, but he only poops around once a day, so I hope that he get's back some of the weight he lost.

Juste discover this thread... and it kinda remember a lot of things...

My daughter is going to be 2 and nine monthes old. She's under strict dairy free, gluten free diet since she's 5 monthes old.

In her case hopefully not much eczema, but she had lots of digestive troubles and pain ( reflux, colics etc. ) As I am allergic to a lot of food myself we based her diet on mine...

Hopefully since she's one year old, we could slowly start animal proteins and soy.... but no fruits up until her second birthday and a few months of chinese medecine ( herbal tea and acuponcture) .

During her second year she gained very few weight ( 1.2 kg) ... she had started refusing any subsitute milk without being able to digest fully the solids.

Now in the third year, she's going far more better... she already gained 3kg. No sign of other allergies appearing ( knowing that I have quite strong respiratory reactions... and her dad too ) and if we don't really have hopes of introducing the dairy ( because she's most probably lactose intolerant ) we hope that we will be able soon to let go a little bit for the gluten.
 
don't have kids but do have nephews 4yo and 7yo. they each suffer from eczema my sister uses products from Melaleuca (www.melaleucahk.com) - i believe they are in Windsor House in Causeway Bay.

since using the washing detergent and soap my nephews have had minimal to no breakouts.
 
Hi I have only just logged on to this web looking for a homeopath as my sons eczema is quite bad. I have been reading all your comments and and would like to know what is IMI? My sons eczema started at 3 weeks old and he is now 5months but still pretty bad worst case around 3- 4 months. I am trying to control the eczema with my diet which is all BF but lets face I am almost not eating anything now. also somebody mentioned massage but did it work or not? I am quite concerned that his eczema will be much worse when he starts solids. Ihave also heard about rast tests but the doctor said there is no point in testing this unless he is about one year and already been exposed to alot of foods. However I am really looking for prevention not the cure and I really don't want to wait until my son is covered head to foot before I try to find out what is wrong with him.
