health insurance for helper?

Hi,

I have a full time DH, am I then required to purchase health insurance for her? Otherwise if she gets sick could she use the HK public hospitals such as Queen Mary for the HKD 100 a day?

hi,

as far as i understand the employer is supposed to pay for all medical expenses. but if you want to pay on your own and not take a health insurance it is ok as well.

though the FDH insurance package in quite comprehensive and covers a lot of other aspects apart from medical; which is the reason we have one for our helper.

i believe that it is just beneficial to the employer to get health insurance just in case anything "big" happens...i bought mine from the agency and it cost $3000 and it includes check ups and hospitalization (to a certain extent) so I think it is worth it

We bought our at HSBC for 600

We have insurance for her through Allianz. Covers a few more things. It's around $600-something.

We got the Pruchoice Maid Insurance policy from Prudential HK, can usually negotiate 10% discount off the standard price.
