Both british curriculum school.

Harrow Pros - good brand name. Open doors.
Cons - too far? too stringent? hours too long? very strict code of conduct? too academic? profit oriented? just a franchise. not a real harrow school.

Kellett Pros - nurturing environment? run by parents? tight knitted community. not too stringent.
Kellett Cons - have heard its senior/secondary years is not well established and supported. not academic enough? too slack in homework?

Comments? which one would u choose?

thanks

How old is your child? Have heard mixed reviews from Harrow Mums. The Mums with younger kids seem to be happy and there's a good mix of kids, but the parents with older kids are not. A few older kids are leaving after 1 year, and returning to their previous schools or heading to boarding.

Kellett, the senior school is in Shaukeiwan and is fairly small. The new campus in Kowloon Bay looks amazing, I guess we'll have to wait and see how it goes. Not sure about homework etc. We get very little at ESF primary and that does seem to be the trend now.

I believe they are disappointed with the English level, as there are number of ESL children in the upper years.

This is from our resident school expert, Anne Murphy of ITS Educational Services Ltd:

Kellett School: Has a genuinely friendly atmosphere and is known for having real soul, due in no small measure to its history of caring for and nurturing students. A mix of parents: the very wealthy, the wealthy and quite wealthy – most professional and entrepreneurial. Teaching matches, if not exceeds, the facilities. Parents comment that teachers go the extra mile: It’s not about ticking boxes – they really seem to enjoy teaching and have a serious passion for the school. According to parents even the homework is interesting! Parents say students are stretched but not pressured and that school is inclusive and supportive, celebrating success and achievements of all. The biggest nationality attending the school are British and then after are Americans. Cons – long waitlists for Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. Campus in Pok Fu Lam needs some renovations.

Harrow: As with any new school it take at least 2-3 years to get established. Harrow Hong Kong is a franchise but the, Master of the school, Principals and Vice Principals have all been with Harrow for many years and have worked in their other schools either Bangkok, Beijing or UK .The caliber of the teaching staff is outstanding. They have recruited some of the best. The campus is amazing with state-of-the-art facilities. It still has that clinical feel to it (only because it’s new). And classes are not completely full yet so it can seem empty in some areas. Children do seem very happy and engaged in their classes. Not enough mixture of cultures to be honest and it’s very far from some of the best residential areas in Hong Kong and price tag for sending your child there……EXPENSIVE!!

We are going to Kellett next year and are really excited. The school organized a few meetings for new parents/students these last couple of weeks. There seems to be a good mix of students and hopefully they won't have the same issues as Harrow.

thanks for the replies.
