Hi there
Looking ahead to when our child will be 5, he currently 3 years old, one option that has been suggested is Harrow. Can anyone share their experiences of this school, the strengths & limitations they have encountered
Many thanks

Have heard the school is amazing. Like any new school there have been teething problems but overall parents and kids are happy. The kids commuting from HK island do a look a bit tired, with the early morning commute. Do you live or plan to live near the Gold Coast?

Thanks for your reply ESFmum. We would consider relocating if we thought the school was suitable & he got accepted etc. That was one of the reasons I was enquiring as a home move would be necessary. Not a decision to take lightly!!

My daughter is at Harrow P1. The current P1 teachers are excellent, and the primary principle is very good to. There are 21 kids in her class. Homework they get on Fridays and it needs to be in the next Thursday. 4 x reading books a week. 4 x extra curricular activities a week within school hours. Includes Gymnastics, computer club, P1 choir, Jazz class ect there are many to choose from.
Each class has a swimming lesson each week and a PE lesson.
My child takes the school bus from Tung Chung, the Tung Chung bus is a direct bus from Harrow meaning our kids are home by 445pm each day. The parents in Tung Chung have reduced the bus stops to 2 within Tung Chung so our kids do not have to waste too much time on the school bus each day. If you decide to drop your child off at school there is no need for the parent to get out of the car as the child is dropped straight onto the school grounds at what is called the drop of plaza there is always a helper, or teachers helping the kids to exit the car and this seems seamless each day as i often drop my child to school in the mornings. The school day is 8am till 4pm.

The one thing many parents discuss is the capital levy is more than any other schools. Although the school says its school fees are not the most expensive in HK $136.500 per year, with the capital levy of $50.000 per year, the annual school costs to parents are $186.500 per year. To compare the Hong Kong International school accually boasts on there website there annual costs including capital is $170,700. Hong Kong international has a higher school fee with a low capital levy so parents that can claim some of the school fees from there employer can benefit as many employers save costs by only covering the school fees and not the capital levies or debentures. Term meal costs are around $2000 a term extra to the fees depending on the weeks in the term and the uniform at the beginning of the year was around $2000. Although the uniform looks nice it's quality is poor and we are onto our 3rd school bag due to its quality. The uniform is one of the teething problems they are addressing. So in all the accounts department are governed by money grabbing governors that set the high debentures and capital levy and the staff has been hand picked by a caring principle that lucky for the governors is saving the Harrow name. We are happy with our daughters education and the student support she gets from her class teacher has been a wonderful experience. The primary principle is really into ensuring the kids are made special and individual and he is a really caring guy who mucks in and gets in there with the kids. I have a 3 year old to, 2009 (aug) born so our kids maybe in the same year. best of luck.

Thank you katzmum for your info. My son is Nov 2010 born and is trying to apply for PN, but so far we haven't been given an interview yet... I called the school in Jan and they say not all applicants are given interviews, so my heart is still beating very fast right now... May i know how old was your child when you applied? I thought we should apply the year before the year of entry, so i was really late...
