I guess it is personal and I may change if I have more than one child but we have a moniter and baby in his own room from about 13 months just because of space issues - probably would have tried moving him at 8 months.

I just feel if my child wakes up in the night, he should see his mummy / daddy not the helper however good their relationship. Having said that, there have been ocassions when we have gone out and she has had the monitor in the kitchen / her room.

Depends on nos of children, if you work etc.

My daughter has been sleeping in her own room since she's 2 months old, nanny sleeps in the room right beside hers, so she can go to her easily when neccessary. I don't like sleeping w/ my daughter in the same room as I get very tense, I tend to check her out whenever she moves... so I prefer her to sleep on her own.

Nanny?

Is she a Nanny exclusively or is she a housekeeper/helper?

If she's the later then it is not right to put her in the room with the child. You are the parents, she's a stranger in your home and she needs her own room and privacy. Keep the monitor by your bed.

If she's hired to look after the baby exclusively and you see to all the other chores, cooking, etc, then I think that's a diff arrangement - similar to professional nannies hired overseas in Europe and America.

googlebaby, i have exactly the same arrangement as you. i tried to sleep with my baby too, and whenever she turns, i'd sit up & check on her. i was driving myself crazy!

tutor1, mine is a nanny exclusively. but i think there are a lot of people out there who let their helper sleep in the baby's room. esp. because not all homes have maid's room in hk. (it doenst mean that i agree with them).

I was sleeping in the same room with my baby (now 7 months) and I was hoping to let him sleep in the room by himself and me with a monitor next door. But as I was planning for this, he started to develop a habit of standing up in his crib when he wakes up in the middle of the night and at dawn - without making any noise! I am now scared that he would hurt himself when climbing up to standing and we wouldn't hear him.

Any moms has similar experience and how to prevent baby from climbing in his crib?

THanks!

Dull

Our baby does the same thing sometimes he is standing in his cot and looking at us. He waits for sometime and then starts making is noises telling us that he is awake and to get him. He does that alot in the mornings when he is fully awake. Nothing we can do he still does but not eveyday

Thanks Neha.

So do you sleep in the same room as your baby? If not, then do you just go to baby when he calls?

:thanks

no he sleeps in the same room with us. Weare planning to mov ehim to his room next Janauray when I come back from my vacation. He will be 13 months + so hoping that he will be able to sleep without waking up. Generally when he is awake and just making some noises lying down we dont pick him up but if he is standing and crying then yes. But now a days I se ehim when he is standing he is wantingto jump out of the cot which scares me. He rocks on the cot ledge and sometimes I feel if he realy pushes himslef he will tilt over that is the reason we have kept him in our room. Hopefully in January we will put his cot on bed level so he will not be able to jump out.

it's perfectly normal for a baby to stand up in the cot. he may fall, but he'll only bang his head on the railings on the cot. it's nothing to lose sleep over. he's going to fall down a lot as he learns how to walk. it's HOW they learn.

now, if he was trying to climb out of the cot, that's completely different!

my first started to try to climb out of it when he was about 11 months old (started walking unaided by 10.5mth). i moved him into a proper bed when he was 12 months old. we put the cot matress on the floor so that if he fell out of bed, he wouldn't get hurt.

My baby has been in his own cot in his own room since he was a couple of weeks old. Until I read this thread i didn't realise how uncommon that is! We had a really good arrangement where the baby's room adjoined our via double doors. We would just leave the doors open so we could hear everything. We also used a baby breathing monitor. If he needed me I was only a few steps away from his cot. The only exception was day time naps when he was young - we usually napped together in the same bed.

I must say that when we have another baby I would like to do the co-sleeping thing. My baby will only sleep in his cot, in his room, in the dark, alone. I would love it if he would go to sleep snuggled between my husband and I. Sometimes I think of moving him into our bed once he is already asleep so that we can all sleep together!
