Debenture

We are applying for reception class and have a corporate debenture for one of the schools we are applying to. Two other schools are also on our list. Question is, what is the likelihood of admission with and without debentures? Is it quite a long shot without one? I would say my child is average or slightly above average.

Thanks for any information.

corporate debentures.

In my experience it certainly allows you to que jump if you have a coporate debenture. We arrived in December, put our name down at three schools, one had a corporate debenture the others we planned on paying a private debenture. We had an interview with in a month for the corporate debenture school and a place for recpetion within two months to start the following September.
So for us it made a huge difference. The other two schools, we got an interview at but sat on the waiting list for a spot.

Hi! We are considering moving to HK for Sept 2011 and the school that I am most interested in (Kellet) told me that there is a wait list of 40 to even get a corporate debenture. Have you ever heard of anyone being told that but then in fact being able to purchase a corporate debenture afterall? They said due to the waitlist, it would be likely to get a debenture for Sept 2011.
Any info would help!
Thanks.

Thanks Sea Princess.

How important is a debenture? Do they reject many with debenture holders? My understanding is that siblings and debenture holders get top priority and then everyone else fills the rest of the spots.

Hi BrownS

We waited and waited and waited for a corporate debenture to become available too and eventually gave up. One of my friends has one child in at Kellet and couldnt get the second child in as there was no debenture available and if you have a corporate they wont allow a personal for the second child? There goes the sibling priority rule! Sounds very odd, but she was devastated. So she has two children at different schools.
My suggestion, look elsewhere. Kellet is a lovely school and people talk highly of it in terms of it being nurturing but it isnt known for it's academic high standard or cultural diversity. Just what I've heard though.

Hi Sea Princess, thanks for the information. I cant believe that they would not allow the sibling in! I too have another child but he would be going in at the same time...therefore would need 2 debentures? So from what you said, it sounds like the chances are pretty unlikely to get a corporate debenture when they have told me that there are 40 on the waitlist...just for the debentures? Is that where you were waiting for a debenture as well? My other thought was to try DBIS and live at Discovery Bay. They too have debenture system but it is nonrefundable. No wait for the debenture though. Do you know aything about that school?
Thanks!

Hi BrownS
Don't like your chances, but things may have changed recently at kellet, I am not sure. The sibling issue with my friend was this year though. Yes, we were waiting at Kellet.

We considered DB also as a place to live and visited DBIS. The principal there at the time was lovely (a New Zealander from memory?) and pretty much told us if we had the company debenture then we would get in. We decided not to live in DB though in the end and I don't know anyone whose children attend there sorry.
