Dealing with Mothers and Mother-In-Laws

I am aware that there are different cultures and that locals either live with parents or live in the same building. But that's foreign to me in that fact that that's not my culture. (i'm not saying anything wrong with that). I'm not trying to cut them out, just trying to figure out what's best for everyone. I think them coming for 2 weeks each but staying elsewhere is the best plan, that way they have 2 weeks here but we get the space that we need to.

Geobaby are we allowing posters to post in languages other than in English on this forum, seems a bit rude, like when go out and deliberately chat in language that some or all of the other members of the group can't speak in?

it could have been sent as a PM.... posting it in a thread that it otherwise completely in english is a little rude. however, i don't think she meant to be rude, perhaps she didn't realise how it would appear to others.

Also a little presumptuous to assume the OP speaks Afrikaans just because her parents currently live there, unless the person knows OP, in which case, why post a rather generic reply?

And for the OP: I think your decision to have your parents and in-laws stay out is the way to go. Looking back it is what I should have done and what we will do going forward when parents visit. Gives everyone some space and down time while also giving grandparents plenty of time with the little one. Also, if you really need a break, just tell them that you need an afternoon to yourself. If they are at all reasonable they will either already know you need some space or accept that you need a short break since you asked for it. Good luck and I think you're approaching this well. While it is only 2 weeks, the couple weeks my parents stayed with us were probably the longest of my life and I wouldn't repeat it, at least not in a HK-sized home.

Agree with Cara, private messages for people should be sent by PM, this is an open forum for the members to discuss different issues and support each other.

Anyway I was not implying that the message itself was rude just posting in another language, so that deliberately or otherwise others can't understand you.

Thanks Elle, that is my thinking.
I didn't mind the Afrikaans message, did take me a while to figure it out as I haven't spoken Afrikaans for about 12 years. :) and google translate was on hand to make sure I'd translated correctly myself.
