Changing Rooms and Rules

Have seen the signs at South Island School and some of the clubs that kids over 5 are not allowed to use the changing rooms of the opposite sex. My son likes to take a shower after a swim, but I still think he's a bit young to turn on the hot water by himself. What do you normally do when Dad is not around? Do you just take your boys to the Ladies' changing rooms?

i think that 5 is still too young...i would put the limit at 7, myself.

there are too many things that can happen and a 5 year old would not know how to handle it.

hot water would only be the smallest of my concerns.

totally agree that 5 years old is too young. i only let my 5-year-old son go into the mens' room alone to take a wee or wash his hands, and i'm usually standing at the front door yelling inside to make sure he's okay (and to let people know that i'm watching out for him). but that's not possible if he's going in for a shower. in the case after swimming, i'll usually just give him a quick rinse in the outdoor shower (if available) and then quickly change him into dry underwear and pants covered in a big beach towel. if no outdoor shower available, then definitely i would bring him into the ladies' changing room with me.

syuan, i stand outside of the men's toilet and yell too. :) that's only if we're in the mall or somewhere new.
