CDNIS students speak mostly Cantonese amongst themselves?

Thanks a lot HC.

My son is currently in KCS K2 class and will do both KCS K3 class and KCIS Reception Class in the coming September.

I certainly like KCIS in view of its strong Mandarin education and affordable tuition fees as compared with most international schools. Primary section of KCIS has become an oversubscribed school and waiting list is now quite long.

I have 1 child currently attending P6.
I find the workload to be relatively light. She does between 30-60 mins per evening for normal school work. We supplement that with private Mandarin tutoring.

Almost all teachers are native English speakers and the standard of English is quite high. As she came from KCS (where there is very little English) her English was quite poor. She was able to come up to speed quite quickly.

Its a lovely school with caring teachers. I'm sure your child will enjoy it there.

Littleho,

would you not consider leaving them in KCS for a few years before switching them over?
Thats what I did with our 3. Nothing beats immersion when it comes to learning a language. KCS, with its strict form and full on immersion was really good for us.

You might disagree, but this does not make them controversial.

I'm 100% confident that I'm not the only one to disagree. When 2 groups disagree over a period if time, it turns into a controversy. But, you've got the solution in hand; take it into a PM so others cannot disagree :-)

As far as I can see I have offered much more precise information in this thread than you have offered.

More than happy to continue to provide information on this or other threads.

Hi HC,

My son's case is quite complicated. He cannot go KCS P1 after K3 because he is too young (born in Jan 2007). While his teacher said he is capable, the school admission policy of KCS primary section with regards to cut-off date does not allow students who are born after Dec to enter P1. That means he will have no where to go after K3. We do not want him to study the same stuff in K3 for one more year.

Another reason is that KCIS has become oversubscribed and many KCIS existing students stay with the school. The attrition rate has dropped significantly. It becomes hard to get in KCIS in later years. In the recent interview for Reception Class, the school only picked 3X candidates (many of them from other international kindergartens) amongst 1XX applicants. They only chose 12 of them. Originally, there were four spaces availble. The school create eight more spaces due to strong demand. I know the school picked only 50 candidates for P1 interview and it only admitted 10 of them. Spaces in later years (P2, P3,...) are even less as most KCIS students stay with the school.

Thats fantastic HappyV -- I would encourage you to share your thoughts and opinions in public so everyone can see them instead of hiding them in PMs.

HowardCoombes, why are you so consistently belligerent, strongly opinionated and argumentative? You are one of the few members of this forum that actively seeks to create an argument. I'm assuming you are male. The majority of posters on this site are female and much gentler in their approach. Perhaps you could dial it down a notch, or join a high school debating team to get it out of your system.

I have strong opinions on a few select topics. If you dont like my opinions, my writing or my style, you can find the ignore button under my profile. Yes, I'm male.
