CDNIS Reception / Preparatory Application

Dear all,

Would any of the CDNIS parents please share their experiences in applying Reception and Preparatory class?

I applied the Pre-reception for my son this year, however, he could not leave us and stayed in the classroom for assessement. So he was unaccepted. :(

Though he was accepted by another international kindegarten:), I am going to re-apply CDNIS again. However, do you know if there is a higher chance of getting in Preparatory or Reception? Would there be more places in Preparatory class?

Many thanks!

For CDNIS, my daughter failed the Pre-reception last year. For us, we treat the interview failures as a good experience for her. She also failed other ISs' interviews. She learns how to stay independently in the interviews. We re-applied CDNIS this year. She gets acceptance to 2010/11 Reception class.

Thanks Zhangbaba. That's very good for you that you got offers from both FIS and CDNIS.

Actually I have not made up my minds for the primary schools for my son. I shortlisted a few like ESF, GSIS, FIS and CDNIS. I want to open the opportunities until the year of ESF primary allocation. That's why I would prefer to apply the Preparatory and keep my son in the same kindegarten for K1 and K2. However, I am afraid that the chance of getting in Preparatory is slimmer than Reception.

Would anyone know that the number of new applicants will be intaken for Reception and Preparatory in CDNIS?

Many thanks!!

There are 90 places available for Prep whilst only 40 available for PreReception. THere are only 2 PreR classes, AM and PM, whilst there are 6 Reception classes, 3 in Am and 3 in PM. The PreR current students of course have preference to get into Prep, leaving about 50-60 available places since some will inevitably leave.

SanjKash, thank you very much for your info. Do you mean the number of intake for Reception class (K2) is more than the Prep class (K3)? I presume 40 places in PreR (K1), 6x20=120 places in Reception (K2), then how many places in Prep (K3)?
As this is my first child, I have no experience and under a very high pressure to find a good school to my son. Sigh...
Thank you for all your kind help...

This is too late to be of use to the OP, but in case any one else is interested, we were told at the interviews on Saturday that there were 100 applicants but only 5 places for Prep, possibly up to 10 depending on how many children leave the school at the end of this academic year.

I also missed the pre reception, so I call up the school admission dept to find out what I should do. The recommend that I apply for reception instead of prep school because the allocation for reception is 80 seats versus 40 seats for prep school. Hope this info help. I am applying for 2012/2013 school year

I was at the CDNIS information session recently and I just wanted to share what the admissions staff told us.

For the 2011/2012 school year:
Pre-Reception (K1) - 40 places (20 am - 1 class / 20 pm - 1 class); > 500 applicants
Reception (K2) - 80 places added for 120 places total (total 60 in am in 3 classes / 60 in pm in 3 classes); > 400 applicants
Prep (K3) - 5 places added for total of 125 places total

I just wanted to clarify this as in some of the earlier posts, pre-reception (K1) and prep (K3) were confused.

I was also told that for 2012/2013, there will no longer be an additional 5 spots open for the Prep year and that the class size will remain at 120. This means that for those applying in prep, the number accepted will be based solely on the number of kids who leave that class. Overall all, the attrition rate each year is 5-7%.

So it looks like the best bet would be to apply at the reception year.

Hope this helps!
