Hi,

No one at home speak Cantonese but my 5 year old is in K3 at a local kindergarten and she has picked up Cantonese very well. She can fluently communicate with her classmates and other children of her age. When she was in K1 and K2, she refused to watch Cantonese TV channels but now in K3 she now only watches Cantonese cartoons. I'm looking for activities in cantonese that she can participate in to strengthen her Chinese language. I was sending her to the HK Academy of Performing Arts (in Wan Chai) for some Cantonese drama classes, which she thoroughy enjoyed, but this is too far. We live near Mong Kok. Can someone advice me on other kinds of group activities I can enrol her for once a week every Sat mornings. There are several activity centres in our residential complex, but they are either one-to-one or at the most have 2 kids per class. I would prefer a class of 4-5 kids or more.

Someone recommended Kai Fong social welfare dept in Mongkok.

Thank you

Hello,
My son is also on K1 in the local stream of an international school and is now understanding a lot in Cantonese. Because I work full time, I usually register him at local afterschool programs like keyboard classes, swiming lessons, camps for summer and Eastern breaks. There are many schools like these all over HK, and professors usually speak English and Mandarin because many students are from mainland, so they can practice three languages at the same time. Check for Global Kids, Little Prince Learning Centre and Greenery Music... they offer maths, drama, violin and many other activities for pre-schoolers. Kowloon park also offers many courses on weekends and I think prices are OK.
Good luck!

Thank you for your wonderful suggestions. I'll look up the websites. I've enrolled my daughter in the morning and afternooon sessions at her kindergarten and thus she's home at around 5pm. I don't want to enrol her in additional activities after school since she's already returning home late. Saturdays mornings are good for her additonal Cantonese practise.

Thank you very much. I called up Little Prince Learning Centre, but they only offer courses in Mandarin.
