American International School

Hi,

I have a daughter who is studying in K2 right now. She is very fluent in English, but not so good at interview. She was not successful in the recent ESF interview. We are very disappointed.

Now, we have to seek other international schools, and AIS came into my mind. We would like to apply for K3, which is starting from this Sep.

Does anybody know if they have a waiting list?

It seems that they do not have the debentures. Is there any hidden cost except for the school fee?

Also, is there any school bus from HK island? Maybe for the first three months, we need to travel from HK side. If my daugter is settled in school, we will probably move to Kowloon side.

Any comments welcome!!!:)

Weren't you applying for QBS as well, if I remember correctly? Sorry to hear that, what happened? Did you get a "no" or "maybe". One (European) boy here (Cat 1) got a "maybe", they only got her late last year, just started school and he still needs to work on his English.

Can't you ask them to re-interview at some point (and/or discuss the issues with the principal and your current school).

Anyway, I looked into AIS before moving to HK. I know space was not an issue in K2 for my oldest. Cost are very reasonable, no debentures and/or hidden cost (I think it was close to $70k a year). It's not an official American school (not like HKIS), but they do follow US curriculum. I would doubt there is a school bus from HK Island. My guess is that most kids would be from the Kowloon side, but please call (or email, they were pretty good when I emailed them from abroad, quick replies).

Have you looked at HK Academy as an alternative? Closer to $100k though, but very good (and small classes).

Good luck!

Thanks. We do not know what happend. We will ask ESF after CNYs. My daughter's kindergarten has been also sayting that she has no problem in English. Also, she is communicating fairly well with our helpers. We see no problem. But ESF gave her "NO". They did not even give her "Maybe".
One probelm is that my daughter said nothing when we asked how the interview was. It seems that she did not reply to any questions. Actually, it is true that she sometimes ignores (maybe too shy) other people's questions.
Anyway, our final target is of course ESF. If we move to Kowloon, we will apply for ESF there. At the same time, we need to seek other schools for the time being.
Yes, I know HK Academy, but fee is out of our budget (company's education budget is 75K per year).
Thanks anyway!!!

HKislander, sorry to hear about the ESF interview. I don't know much about AIS, but I have seen the school buses around HKIsland.
