Acceptance of twins in schools

I have 5 year old twin boys who are on the verge of the interview process for Primary 1. Does anyone have any experience of schools accepting one twin and rejecting the other? One twin is more chatty and outspoken whilst the other is a bit more shy and I'm afraid that he will be the one that gets rejected. Do schools have a policy of keeping twins together? I would hate them to have to go to different schools. Thanks everyone!

I have twins just not school age yet (my older one is). I think most schools split them up, class room wise, but I think no school would accept 1 and not the other. I don't think that would be in the interest of the children either. That would be really weird, unless one had clear developmental and/or medical issues / needs, etc.

Thanks for your reply. I agree with you. I don't mind if they are put in different classes but hope that they will be in the same school together at least. I am a mum of three as well - I have a 16 month old daughter too.

I have the other way around, a 4 year old (almost 4 1/2) and then almost 22 month old b/g twins. Mine are very different anyway also because they're different sexe. I am already to do things with them seperately.

Hi - I am also going through the same process as you with my boy/girl twins. My son is chatty and sociable whereas my daughter is shy but academically, my daughter is smarter than my son. So far they have attended 2 interviews and am waiting for their outcome.

I am also awaiting results for an interview that the boys had nearly a month ago - nail biting stuff, isn't it? They have another one on Saturday for a different school. Have you been doing any special preparation for your twins for the interviews?

Most of their interviews will be conducted next month. I think a lot of the 2nd round interviews are around end of Oct/beg Nov. My kids' did attend some interview preparatory courses but most of the stuff are already covered in their daily school work such as spot the difference between 2 pictures. Their 1st interview at a school which I don't intend of them attending was just a warm up session so I'm not too phased if they don't get through to the next round. Their last interview was conducted by 5 teachers.

Are you applying international or local schools?

Both local private and DSS schools, and one international school, so lots of competition! I didn't know that there are interview courses to take. People in Hong Kong think of everything. Likewise, the first two interviews for my boys are going to be practice runs as I am not too fussed about them being accepted at those. Let's keep in touch on the progress of twins!

I'm applying the same as you except int'l. I agree - the competition is fierce esp amongst the DSS schools. There's one DSS school that has already got over 2000 applicants for 175 places. Are you applying for schools on HK or Kowloon side?

Just received the outcome of the interview conducted last week and my kids are put on the waiting list. Maybe coz I didn't put in much effort into their application portfolio or that my kids were dressed too casual on the day.

Most of the interview prep courses are conducted in cantonese. I managed to find one that does both English and cantonese.

Oh dear - one of my twins got rejected after his interview and the other has been put on the waitlist. Funnily enough it was the chattier one who got rejected! Maybe he just got too big for his boots! We also submitted our application for the Points system (local school) but I won't be too hopeful. The boys only have 5 points each, but there's no harm in trying I guess. We currently live in HK East but for the interview that I mentioned earlier, the school is in West Kowloon and if they had gotten accepted we would have moved to Tung Chung (which is why we applied to that school). Do you know of any other good schools within travelling distance to Tung Chung?
