We are moving to HK from London in Feb 2013 and are looking for a school place for our daughter aged 5. Just submitted the form for esf Bradbury as we will be based in Happy Valley but well aware we will need plenty back-up options. I am feeling completely overwhelmed, any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Just noticed she's 5 (which will make it even harder), assume she needs to be in Y1 for ESF (2007 born). Chances will be very very slim for Bradbury, especially for Y1 and Y2, probably more than 100 on the list. Wait could be 1-2 years if not more. Some parts of HV go to Quarry Bay School (Eastern part of HV) but there the situation won't be very different.

Other schools to consider (apart from the ones that are probably even harder to get into, like HKIS, Kellett, CDNIS, FIS, etc.) on the island: KIS, Delia School of Canada, IMS, ICA (International Christian Academy?, know nothing about it), Rosary Hill is a local English medium school close to Bradbury (have no idea how hard, etc.) on Stubbs Road. Harbourschool in Kennedy Town may have options in some year levels. A lot of preschools run P1, and even P2 programs. There are some other local EMI schools, but not too many on the island, would have check with Education Bureau. I know too little about those.

ICA is Island Christian Academy. I accompanied a friend there on a school tour and was quite impressed by their teachers as well as their student body. They were a mix of western and Asian faces, and all seemed very happy and engaged in learning. Their principal Ms Gail has 25 years experience teaching at Bradbury and from all reports, sound very knowledgeable and approachable.

They're new so not as oversubscribed as other primary schools but I think they are definitely worth your while to do a school visit. A number of their children are there while waiting for a place at an ESF primary, but I also hear of some parents who seem happy to have their children complete their primary there.

Rosaryhill offers English kindergarten but I was told their primary school reverts to Chinese am(Cantonese) as the medium of teaching.

Just wanted to add some info for the OP. I currently have a child enrolled in ICA and cannot praise the school highly enough. I, and a number of other ICA parents received offers from more established international schools including ESF and to a person we chose ICA for our children. The majority of the parents who have their children enrolled there will complete primary education there, it is not a 'transit' school where people mark time until places at other schools become available. In fact a large percentage of children in the years 2 and 3 actually came from ESF or other international schools to ICA! The school is affiliated to Small World kindergarten which has an excellent (and well-deserved) reputation, built over 25 years and the team behind Small World is the same team behind ICA. There are currently plans afoot to continue the education offered beyond primary and into secondary, which will be wonderful indeed!! You should know that already the school has been very well subscribed and also that Small World Kindergarten children receive priority. That said I suspect that due to the fact it is a brand new school it may well be easier to gain a place than some of the more established international school but I am certain that once more people hear about it and see what is being offered that will change very rapidly!!!!! Good luck with your move and your school hunt it is indeed a stressful time and I hope it goes as smoothly as it can for you!!!!

Thanks so much for that info. I emailed them and you're right they are still taking children in y1 for this school year. I have arranged a visit as soon as we arrive.
Thanks again
