Would there be some more parents interested in a German speaking pre-school and a once a week student support group for school age children/teens (also for mother-tongue support) ?

Hello Birgit,
I would definitely be interested in something. Can you tell us more about where and what?
Thank you! Sophia

Hi Sophia,
this is a parent-run group, initiated by the ESF primary schools, to support children of German mother/father tongue who are not attending the German school and might not have enough opportunity to speak/learn/improve their German at home; maybe because only one parent is German speaking.
We had our first informal get-together yesterday at Glenealy Junior School and are hoping to extend it to non-ESF parents as well, as our numbers are a bit small. We are especially interested in German parents to help, as this is a voluntary parent support group, so we cannot hire a teacher but need to do it ourselves.
We read, play songs, do arts and craft and with the older ones some writing/reading. If you are German speaking and interested in helping (on a rota-basis), then please contact me again.
Birgit

Sorry, Birgit, but I am not available to help in this parent run group, as I am a working mother, though it sounds like a good idea for non-working parents who don't need proper teaching for their child.
In my case, I would prefer to send my child 1-2 times per week to a professional preschool with trained teachers and structured class setting, rather than to a voluntary group which sounds more like a casual get-together.
Would you know of any such group/lesson here in Hong Kong?
Sophia

Hi Sophia, no worries. It will certainly be interesting to see the progess of this initiative.
Regarding your question, I shall pm you some info regarding German playgroups and preschools in Hong Kong to which friends of mine send their children.
Hope it helps! Birgit

Hi Birgit,

Could you also PM to me (even though my kid is still too young)? Because I want to plan ahead.

Thanks

Hi littleHo,
Though this group is also open to non-ESF students and their siblings, it is only a mother tongue support program, i.e. it is not run like a language class/school and is not suitable for children who first need to learn German. It's intended for children, who already speak German at home with at least one parent but may not be fluent enough or can't read and write in the German yet.
Kindly pm me your details and who in your family is the German speaking parent, then I can put you or your spouse onto the list.
Do you also require info regarding the German playgroups and preschools? If so, please let me know too.
Thanks, Birgit
