Kids can learn languages quickly and efficiently. I know some English speaking kids can handle Chinese and Japanese quite well. However, if you want your kids to learn Chinese, it would be beyter to start earlier, ie from KG or lower primary level. Otherwise, they usually find it is very hard to follow the class.
