Pros and cons of ESF vs. HKA or HKIS

Don't know much about HKA.

ESF primary schools follow either the British national Curriculum or the PYP for the IB. My kids attend ESF schools and most of their teachers are British, Australia, or New Zealanders.

HKIS follows a USA style curriculum.

HKA and HKIS are on HK Island. ESF schools are all over HK.

thank you so much for your reply!
I don't know anything about this and am starting to panic a bit that we will not get her into school for second semester

if you are from the US you should apply to HKIS as you will have a better chance there since children studying in the US, US passport holders have priority over those that are not in the US system originally. however saying this, HKIS has a long wait list, therefore, I would logon to there website www.hkis.edu.hk to enroll now.

like all international schools, the wait list is unpredictable, therefore for safetys sake, I would also go to the ESF's website www.esf.edu.hk to download an application form for your child. with the ESF system though, residential address is used to determine which of their primary /secondary schools you can enroll in. do you know where you will be staying? on the hong kong side? which district in the hong kong / kowloon side? if you can give me more details I can give you more info. i went to both ESF and HKIS so I know them both well.

We will be staying in Central at a hotel for awhile, looking for a place. We would like to stay around the Central area if possible.
Thanks for your tips!

if you're staying in the central area - the ESF system (Glenealy for Primary and Island School for Secondary) would be the most convenient location for you. Kids would have to travel 15-20mins to school if they were to attend the ESF schools. From Central HKA is 20-25mins and to HKIS it is 30-40mins. Of course, this is all without traffic jams and assuming you are going directly from one place to another. If you take the school bus, the travelling time might be 5-10mins longer because of the stops in between.

I'm trying to figure out which would be the "easiest" for your children to get in...if you're American then you definitely have an edge at HKIS, if you're European then the ESF system. The HKA does not to my knowledge have such a policy and admissions is on an ongoing process throughout the year.
