ESF 2013 Waitlist Chances?

We will be applying for entry into P1 in 2013, at ESF.

As far as I can tell we\'re going to be in a suitably high category as our child only speaks English. He is currently in Woodlands.

Should we be hedging our bets and applying to other schools too?

We live in Mid-Levels and the school of choice is Gleanely, but we\'re open to applying to other schools on HK Island.

Should we apply to multiple schools or do we have reasonable chances for ESF?

Have heard people are applying to a min of 4 schools. Pls don't put yr eggs in 1 basket. Glenealy and the Peak are both small schools.

Other schools I would suggest looking at, GSIS, Canadian, Island Christian and Chinese Int'l

Yes! Glenealy is only 2-form, and take away all those siblings and ESF Kindy children with priority and very few spaces will be left for other Cat 1s, let alone 2s. My friend's daughter came from Woodlands 1-2 years ago (now Y2) and she was one of the very few accepted.

If you are Cat 1 with no priority, then you definitely need a back up plan. We got a Glenealy offer but had priority. We know other Cat 1s with no priority who didn't get a place as it is a such a small school.

I heard that wait-list is very long this year, unless your number is in top tier, chances are very less.

I agree. The waitlist is long and about 10% of the seats are now allocated to the 500K rights holders ( assuming they're fully subscribed ).

I would hedge your bets and apply to a few other schools.

Shri, it won't be 10% solely for Y1. It's 150 places for all 13 schools, primary and secondary so about 12 spots per school, for all year levels. Yes, more likely Y1 and Y7, but also Y2 and Y3 is still quite hard these days. Not sure about Y8, etc. it's only for those coming from overseas.
